Hiya Robbo, I'm new here too. Not long come back from our first camping trip. We also have a rage, but our is the Vardo 8. Prolly bought from the same sight as yours lol
We were in Wales in pretty windy/very rainy condition, and ours was brilliant! Not a drop of water leakage, and the poles withstood the wind, so don't be too wary, I'm the worlds biggest worrier and I'd recommend my (not so lil) tent to anyone
Glad to hear your tent didnt leak in with the weather we been having.Soon find out this weekend if my tent stands up to the rigors of thr lake district weather,So fingers crossed i wont be sleeping in the car
Our first tent was a rage bergen and after we bought it we saw lots of negative comments of this forum and thought we had dropped a goolie. Unfortunately and please no disrespect to anyone, there are a number of tent snobs on this forum. The tent was fine, no leaks after a substantial storm and it did not blow away. How long will it last, well it probably depends on how often you use it, but I believe it was good value for money and great tent to start with to decide if you like camping and to give you a chance to decide what is the best style for you. My only complaint and the reason why we changed was that we found having no windows when the tent was closed up was a bit claustrophobic. In ours the windows were all at the back behind the bedrooms.
I am sure you will enjoy your tent but do make sure you buy some decent pegs.

Can I just say that I have posted previously supporting these tents completely. We went to somerset this weekend and had to cut our trip short because our tent completely disintegrated in the wind. All other tents looked fine. Ours was a RAGE Vardo 8. One pole snapped, several others completely bent in several places beyond recognition. Cords ripped also. This tent had aluminium poles, I would not recommend to anyone. However, it didnt leak. Sadly it is now in the bin. It lasted us a grand total of three nights. Looking forward to buying a vango diablo 600 very soon
It is not a case of being a tent snob at all, but purely being very careful and doing lots of research into which manufacturers make good quality, robust tents, and which don't! Nothing more, nothing less. If we were all snobs we'd be buying Cabanons etc but to my mind Outwell, Vango, Kyham and the like are good value, quality tents that are less likely to cause a problem than other brands.
Our Monty 6 withstood violent hail storms in France last summer without so much as one peg requiring reinserting or one drop of rain leaking in. That is impressive for a £300 tent. The hail was the size of golf balls btw.
Fair play! Having said what I did earlier, it was a perfect tent to start out with, but I will be looking at getting something better for next yr. We're looking at vango's and outwells atm. It was a great lil tent, but we didn't like the fact that it didn't have a SIG and that we had to take down one of the bedrooms to open the door everyday. But all in all, for a starter tent it was ideal.
And yes, a red from Brizzle. There's LOADS of us lol

We were recently in Norfolk and our next door neighbours had this tent. Unfortunately when the wind decided to pick up their poles snapped completely. They were only there for a couple of nights but had to pack up immediately as nothing could be done to repair it.
I'd be a bit concerned about aluminium poles tbh, as aluminium is not a strong metal at all. But it boils down to having a tent fit for the purpose for which you require. We camp all year round and therefore did a lot of research on which tent would be most suitable for family camping in rough weather. We opted for steel poles and a high HH, but not too big that heating it becomes a problem. While snobbery may exist, many people favour certain brands from experience of having them and comparing them to other tents. When we started out, we had a cheap ebay purchase which turned out not to be so cheap in the long run when it got flattened by gusts. You live and learn and when you compare the thickness of the poles and the feel of the fly between tents, you can judge the quality. Having said that, if we were having a summer like last year which was hot and dry then tents that are not so resilient to bad weather would be fine and let's face it, camping is by no means a cheap hobby so there's no point laying out lots of money for a tent that you may never use again.
The way I see it is we have limited holiday time each year and I want to do everything possible to try and have a dry environment in which to spend it. With the UK weather being so unpredictable then being prepared for the worst has to be a necessity in order not to have a ruined holiday. If I had to sit there and worry about it falling over or leaking I just wouldn't bother to go because hols are for chilling, not stressing.
Aluminium poles? my Rage Bergen had the usual fibreglass 11mm poles with 2000 HH. I stand by what I said about tent snobs but I did say 'no disrespect', but sometimes I smile when I read responses that imply that unless it is a well known brand it must be rubbish. Yes a £300 tent is bound to be better than a £70 tent. But it is better to buy a cheapie (which it is still possible to sell on for £40-£50) and decide what YOU want from a tent and NOT what OTHER campers want. What your budget is and most importantly whether you enjoy the experience. I know of so many people who have spent a small fortune buying a quality tent and all the gear only to find that they hated it and ended up with the stuff in the loft or selling it all for a song.

Isn't that a bit of a fire risk to have to take down one of the bed pods to open the door to the tent?
We got our new big tent from Millets, it's a Eurohike Swale and only cost £109 which I thought was great value at half price. The HH is only 1500, but it stood up to a weekend of heavy rain and wind without leaking or blowing down.
I think if you put up a tent properly then it should stand up to most things.
Hi .nice to hear you have a rage bergen tent how do you find it ? quite new to camping so trying tents with a open mind was thinking about Outwell indianna 8 but trying rage bergen 8 this weekend in the lakes/ So fingers crossed..
