I'm probably being thick but I'm not quite sure what is meant by a 'riser' groundsheet. I imagine it is like a bathtub GS but without being attached to the sides?!!
Perhaps someone can tell me how far up these GS generally rise/go. (I'm looking at getting a 2006 Vango Oregon which doesn't have SIG)
Thanks

A riser groundsheet is a bathtub. Its half way house between a Sewn in Groundsheet and a loose groundsheet. Its called a riser as it normally overlaps the flysheet and attaches about 4 -6 inches up the flysheet so that it prevents draughts but oes provide some extra ventilation.

In the 2006 Oregons it`s about 4 inches high round the edge and toggles into points on the inside of the flysheet sleeves. There is no riser section at the doorways though...it just lies flat. In the 600 Oregon the groundsheet only goes to the edge of the big pod, so it doesn`t run throughout the tent. Pretty sure it`s the same on the 800 too...the groundsheet is only a 3/4 one.
I`ve got a 2006 Oregon 600, btw, and have just bought a 2006 Oregon 800, which should arrive tomorrow. So, if you`ve got any more questions, fire away.

That's the nice thing (and one of the deciding factors for us) about the Outwell Indiana. It has a bathtub groundsheet, but where there are doors there are zips on the groundsheet so that you can lie it flat so no kids (or us!) tripping over the groundsheet when they go in/out, and when you close the door, you zip up the groundsheet too

Lead me not into temptation - I can find the way all by myself!
Thanks for that! I've learnt such alot on here since I joined 3 weeks ago - When we bought our first tent I just went into CCCs in Sheffield and picked one that seemed OK. I am now so much better informed and I am hoping when I finally get round to getting a new tent I get the right one!
The Vango Oregon 600 is the front runner at the moment as I've read so many posts raving about them. (So thanks Val for your V oregon specific info. I know who to ask next time!)
Just make absolutely sure which Oregon 600 you eventually buy....there are several significant differences between the 2006 version and the 2007, the most important one being that the 2007 has a SIG, of course. And the 2006 version is getting pretty hard to find.
