Hi All well after much deliberation and recommendations from this site we decided at the eleven hour to purchase the Norfolk Lake which was on offer at go outdoors before going off to France for two weeks. Have just returned and hate to report that all was not well. Unfortunately we didn't have time to try before we left and so had all our fingers crossed. I must say how easy it was to erect but then found two poles missing, one elastic missing where you hang the bedroom compartment to the tent and a broken zipper on the bath tub ground sheet. Then when it rained there were two large patches on the fly sheet that were almost see through, and alot of marks down one side. There were also faults in the material on the curtains. Armed with photographs I took it back to go outdoors in Loughnorough today and they insist that there policy is to return it to the manufacture for checking and I will have to wait 4/5 weeks for their comments. Was just wondering if anyone had had similar experiences with this company.

did you buy it in store or online? as ther policy online is very different to what you say.Im not contradicting you in fact i think its terrible that they are holding your money when it obviouse ther is a problem. iv been cheeky and e mailed them asking them why.Yeomans and most other retailers will exchange no quibble as they know what happend with the Outwells.i think i would be playing my face .Personaly i dont like go outdoors
Hi suns
I bet they will not reply to your email.
all I can now say to ((GO OUTDOORS))
I forget now what is the time limit for a refund or replacement but if it was me, a phone call to trading standards would give you the answer.
I think we have had a few members who have had problems with this company.

Hi again, By the way its Jayne, thank you for your comments although when I clicked on 2tents link I got a blank screen. We brought it at the Loughborough Store - in fairness to them they were very accomodating and offered us another tent whilst there were checking the Norfolk Lake, but did not take them up on their offer has I doubt we will camp again this year. What annoys me is why they have to check it when I provided clear photographs of the problems (and I have since emailed copies to them for them to forward to outwell) and we purchased it 2 days before we left, were away for 16 days and returned the day after we returned - so had not even had it a month. The faults with the fly sheet fabric did not show up until it rained. I was reluctant to contact Outwell direct as the reponses to their faults on other threads seem somewhat in denial.
I will contact trading standards tomorrow to see exactly where I stand and hopefully resolve this sooner than their estimated 5 weeks +. I do not want a replacement because I will not be able to roadtest until next year.
I will keep you posted and thanks again this is such a fanastic site.
Yes itguy it was Dave and I do not deny he was very helpful but said they had only been open four months and this was their policy for dealing with tent returns. He showed me the folder they have with their procedure in this event.
2tent sorry have now managed to access that link thanks for that.
eeek, ok then. Shame as I did feel I got good service there today.
It will be interesting to see what trading standards say - I wish you all the luck.
We've got a Bear Lake 6 (bought from Yeomans) and it has been faultless - fantastic tent. I hope this experience with your Norfolk Lake hasn't put you off - the outwell Lake range is truly wonderful really.
Did your tent look tampered with or do you think it had been erected before?
We noticed that go-outdoors had all of the bear lakes stacked up in their bags in the store, but at Yeomans our bear lake was taken out of the cardboard packing boxes in front of us - we knew it was brand-new and never previously tampered with.
Just a thought....

Hi itguy, yes my OH made that comment, the pole bag was a little loose at the top when I purchased it but the two they had left were both like that. I did mention to one of the sales assistants in store that with the variety of faults it looked like it had been used before but he didn't respond and how can I prove this thinking. I took the photo's thinking there would be no problems returning it as they can clearly see the problems but this was obviously not enough. Dave said they needed to see the faults on the fly sheet fabric when wet and could not set it up outside as it was pouring with rain when I returned it!! Has my photos clearly showed what happened when it was wet and this is only one of the problems we had with the tent I would not have thought there was any question. Well we will wait and see. But holding on to my £600.00 + and we also purchased the outwell universal canopy and I have nothing to show for it I would have hoped it be have been resolved there and then - I don't know what more I could do.
i would print these pages off and take it to him ,let him read them and ask for my money back.My nebraska was in the box when i bought it from Yeomans.Good luck and let us know how you get on

Thanks for that 2tents, have just spoken to them and they say that this is their company policy for faulty tents that they have to send them back for testing. They have given me Head Offices no. if I would like the policy explaining to me further!! Will now ring trading Standards but seem to be hitting my head against a brick wall.
