Hi all

Out Gelert Satellite 6 is is about coming to the end of its days and I have managed to negotiate the approval of the purchase of a new tent.  Now this is where the problem starts!

I absolutey hate putting up out current tent - I despise threading those fibreglass poles through and then the total wibblywobblyness of it until you actually have it pegged down.

So - we started havng a look round - the requirements are...Easy/quick to put up, light and airy, SIG, Steel poles.  We have 2 children and need a decent (though not necessarily huge) living space.  Size and weight when packed are also a consideration

OK - so we went off to Norich Camping and had a good look round.  We really like the Outwell Minnesota 6 and Montana 6.  They both tick all the boxes - just need to decide if we need the slightly larger living space of the Monty - we don't really want or need anything bigger.  HOWEVER - we would prefer 3 bedrooms.  They both have only 2.  The kids (7 & 4) will happily share, but they are easier to get to sleep apart and as they get older, they want to have sleepovers with other children in our camping party and I can see in the next couple of years they will want to take friends with them.

So - the problem - we want the airiness, space, easy of erection etc of the Outwell Monty/Minny but with 3 bedrooms - eg like the Vango Aspen 700 (but that looks faffy to put up and feels dark to me)

Any suggestions/ideas/comments?

Many thanks

Jeremy

Have you thought about the Sunncamp Vario 900?  Very easy to put up and four bedrooms if you want them.  Two if you want to leave the annexe at home.  Very light and airy with a SIG but the only metal poles are the ones that you put along the inside of the tent to keep it rigid.  Although the poles are fibreglass and need threading through the sleeves I've never had a problem with them.

You could also look at some of the Khyam Quick erect tents.  Think some have three bedrooms and steel poles.

Hope that helps.

You could consider an outwell indiana 8. 2 bedrooms side by side and an optional third bedroom along one side. You can leave the third room out if you want extra living space. It also has a zip on canapoy. Only pitched it once so far, but it went up with out any probs.

As your children are still quite young and you like the Monty 6, why not buy a Monty 6 and create a third bedroom in the living area by putting a small dome or a popup tent in there overnight? MT

I'm with Nors - the Outwell Indiana 8 is a smashing tent, light & airy, bags of space, and as easy to put up as anything of that size can be.

My mates have Indiana 8's as well.

Fantastic tent and up in a jiffy.

Lots of "door" options and very light and airy.

If I had the dosh, I would buy an Indie 4 as a weekend tent.

(But I dont and didnt and bought a Pro Action Neveda 5 instead. Loosely based ion the Indiana 4 without any refinements of coarse - dry w/ends only!!!!)

Good luck with whatever you choose.

I'd recommend the Royal Bordeaux 6 as an alternative to the Monty 6 - we had the same dilemma as you with two growing kids who wanted to sleep apart (and bring friends etc.) so we opted for the Royal (because of the 3 bedrooms) over the Outwell and glad we did too.

The Royal has held up very well in our few camping trips this year (all bar one have been in atrocious weather) for only a few days at a time. I love the skylights and light and airy feel in the Royal as well. We tried a double airbed for the wife and myself but found this too uncomfortable (I like a good nights sleep and the wife is a light sleeper LOL!) so we now have 2 single airbeds and despite what some have said, we find these fit in the middle bedroom in the Royal with no problems. With 2 other single airbeds in the other 2 bedrooms its comfortable enough for us.

We also felt we were getting slightly better VFM with the Royal coming with the canopy (albeit not as big as the Outwell canopy but thats £100 extra!) and we bought a Bear Lake 6 carpet which fits the Bordeaux 6 brilliantly.
