we have just come back from our first camping trip in our khyam ontario 8 and despite the 60 mph winds we really enjoyed it . we weren't sure if we had pitched it properly but it looked ok and it stayed up and didn't leak so we were well pleased.

have been looking for next year and have come across a site that has all weather pitches suitable for tents. i believe they are some kind of small gravel  and they advise you to use a thicker groundsheet .

our tent has a sewn in groundsheet and we also have a footprint , just wondered if any-one has used these all weather pitches and will we be ok with what we have or will we require something extra . also will normal tent pegs be ok ????

cheers emmac

Hi. I would use an ordinary tarp from B&Q under the footprint or/and buy a "carpet" for the Kyham for comfort underfoot (this could be substituted with a couple of those plastic backed picnic rugs (easier to wash).

I would def use some longer stronger "rock pegs".

Hi Emma

We pitched on a peagravel base a few weeks ago. We didnt have any problems at all. We checked the pitch over first, removing any large stones, then put a couple of taupaulins under the tent before erecting. We also put a couple of the waterproof backed picnic blankets inside the tent, as you could feel the gravel when you knelt inside the tent, but the picnic blankets masked the gravel. We used 10" Thick Steel Pegs for pinning down, and they were fine, got them in ground ok (make sure youve got a decent mallet, as the family next to us, bent theirs!) and they held well against the winds. Have fun.
