I got a replacement pole for a khyam freelander a while ago. There are no instructions in the tents's manual on how to get the old one out, new one in. I have seen it done some time ago and know it is not hard if you use the right technique but for the life of me I can't remember it and I want to use the tent in the next couple of days. I will ring the supplier tomorrow but just in case, can anyone help me?

Thanks very much. This is very helpful and explains the technique very well , still struggling to get the pole out of the central fitting but will keep trying.
i didn't realise there was a repair video on the khyam site and i am going to have to replace a bedroom pole on my classic xl. One of them has bowed a bit, over the last 2 trips which were in windy conditions.
Good luck with your replacement. I recently purchased a Khyam Tourer 400 and watched the DVD we got with it with interest. It looked really tricky getting the poles out of the main hub hope I never have to find out exactly how tricky it is

Karen asked how I broke it. It was in the manual with the Highlander that you release the pressure on the springs to put the tent down by leaning the pole towards the tent. However, I had had a much bigger Khyam years ago and I did not read the manual until last week, could not release the pressure and use brute force and snapped the joint, so totally my fault, nothing to do with the manufacture of the tent.
Because I could not get problem pole out the hub and needed to use the tent Saturday night, I took some duck tape with me. When I put the tent up, it sat in the join perfectly, was no problem at all. I have spoken to the spare pole supplier and he said to drop the tent in to get it repaired, but it is some distance away and I could not do it on Friday. As I can still use the tent, I am really only doing it because I am thinking of changing to to something taller.
I am getting a bit tired of crawling into the tent and will read previous posts to see recommendations for something easy to put up for one 5ft person with enough headroom to walk into.
Thanks again for the suggestion about the help site as at least I could check what I was doing.
Thanks for your suggestions to upgrade, I have been scouring other posts on and topics for some ideas and I will look up the specifications for the two you mention.
Abou the height, is there some misunderstanding about the model. I am not sure of the exact height of the Highlander but I thought it was around 1.35m. I am 5ft 3" and I am definitely crawliing, even when sober.
Ahhhh I understand now. Your first post said Freelander!
I have the freelander and going by what you said it would be perfect for you. I changed to it from the McKinley for exactly the same reasons as you
It's a much roomier tent and still really easy to carry and pitch. 185cm at highest point compared to yours at 130cm, which is 4cm shorter than my McKinley was.

Thanks, this is so helpful. It's a wonder I got such good advice when I did not even know what tent I owned. I was looking at the Khyam Tourer since your last suggestions but obviously the smaller I can go, the easier to pitch, so I will ahve a look at the Freelander.
Haha no problems. Glad I am not the only one who does things like that.
The Freelander is still a doddle as a one woman pitch. The only thing I would say is to remeber to put the "hat" on while it is on it's knees. Whenever I forget I can't reach and as you are a wee bit shorter than me the same will apply to you.
They generally have the pitching videos on the website. It will pitch the same as yours with the addition of 1 pole you have to thread through for the bedroom pod.
I before reading your last message I bid on ebay for a Khyam Tourer and when I read your message I decided I could manage with a Freelander so was quite pleased to be outbid. It was still cheap though. If you look for items where the listing is misspelt, they go for quite a bit less because very few people see them, I start looking for a Freelander.
