WE have a BL4. I wouldn't want to leave the Zig on as it is heavy on it's own...and the fabric isn't light. We have now split ours into 3 bags with the ZIG in a bag on it's own. Love the tent though...excellent in all the weather we have had thrown at us this summer. (Leaked on a few seams the first heavy downpour but then the seams sealed as the cotton thread expanded no probs after that)
------------- "Why can't they see that when we bleed we bleed the same?"
1) The canvas is heavy on its own
2) The zig is often muddy
Our bear lake is great, its never leaked.
Last weekend I noticed a small round grease / oil stain near where the thermometer is fitted. The thermometer now has a big air bubble in it, so i think some of the oil has leaked onto the canvas whilst the tent was packed.
tentester, I see from your photos that you have a similar issue to us with the zip..it does seem to be stretched a bit. Not too worried at present but am keeping an eye on. How is your zip?

we had a chat to yeomans who exchanged the tent without any aggro whatsoever! (must update gallery!) the replacement has been fine zip wise. it is made tighter by not having a level pitch but nowhere near as bad as the first canvas, but...groundsheet was over-large(!) er, no pegs! we also had a 'leak scare' when in wales a couple of weeks ago (it was lashing it down fo a week!) however, after it dried out it rained again and (as polycotton works) was water tight-fantastic tent and would not swap it, brilliant! you happy with yours?
Don't forget to leave a review of all tents you've used, for a chance to win fantastic prizes
Yes we love the tent but you have me thinking now about taking ours back re the zip. It has strained quite a bit...hmmm!
Apart from the zip though it is a really good tent. We came to it via a cabanon and were worried about stepping down in quality...the tent is so good that we hardly noticed the difference. It's really nice to live in whatever the weather.

Second time we took the tent out and opened up one of the side windows fully we found that there was no zip stop. Subsequentialy, we opened the window to its full extent and, hey presto, the zip came straight off. No way off putting it back on so taking it back for a replacement.
Saying that, still (reasonably) happy with the tent.
We have a slightly tight zip. I noticed that it adjacent to the front panel seams. We used ours for a week and it became better with use. The zip has stretched slightly but nothing that concerns me.
------------- Anything becomes a pleasure if one does it too often!
We have just got a Bear lake 6 and are going to put it up at the weekend to see if everything is as it should be. Pardon my ignorance, but what is a "zig" that you are all talking about? It would seem to be very important!
