Hello,
I'm new here but been camping for years. I'm curious to find out the model of tent I have in my gallery.
It's a Cabanon which I bought myself new perhaps 15 years ago. It has no inner, was not designed to. The interesting feature is that the upper canvas zips onto the thick groundsheet and it goes up in about 5 minutes. The drawback is that it has a heavy steel frame inside and the whole package comes in two large bags. I've used a Cabanon Pyramide VI for 10 years and last week bought a fab new Cabanon Biscaya 500 which I have yet to try out but I was thinking of selling this mystery tent which had been in my attic for years. I did take it two weeks ago to the National Trust site at Great Langdale in Lake District to try it out where I took this photo. It rained and rained and I was so impressed with it that I havent the heart to sell it now so I shall keep it. Some serious walker types thought it rather funny and called it a "house tent". The only drawback of the design is you are either inside or outside with no transition zone which was a bit awkward in the wet conditions though I think it was preferable to the other expedition tents on site where the owners were having to crawl on all fours to get in and out.
Does anyone know anything about this tent?
I hope I don't regret buying my Biscaya, it was frighteningly expensive and I'm feeling guilty already. Perhaps that feeling will go once I have slept in it.
Thanks

It looks like the Cabanon Etna, but that one had an inner tent & no zip in groundsheet for the main tent. I've never heard of a Cabanon with a ZIG, so I'll be interested in any replies you get from people in the know. Looks a nice tent
There are no markings on the bags, too faded perhaps.
I remember the tent being in the Cabanon printed catalogue at the time and I think it was intended as a tent to stop-ovenight on the way to a holiday. In other words it was meant as a secondary tent. There are curtains (not with flowers but an 'abstract' pattern!) and there is a full length roof lining. I think it pre-dates the modern trend for large light nylon/polyester tents and as I recall, when I bought it the weight didn't phase me but now it just seems so heavy.
At the time I had a Cabanon Espace (lovely lovely tent but just too many bags/heavy/time to erect) and wanted something for weekends. Then I sold the Espace and bought a PyramideVI which I've used ever since (one person can easily erect it).
Dominic
