I second what matshan has said.
To add I would never buy a tent off ebay due to the returning factor etc;
Shopping locally keeps your local stores open too
Best of luck

I know that some retailers say that Vango trail behind Outwell a little in the specific area of the big family tents, because Outwell have really focused on that market for the last few years. On the other hand Vango built up their reputation via their mountaineering/backpacking tents, which are superb. However, when you look at the problems reported with some Outwell models this year, I am not sure that there is much to choose between them. What I have always noted on these boards though, is that Vango have rarely, if ever, been criticised for their customer care.
I guess whatever maker or model you are asking about, there will be a range of different experiences amongst UKCS members. For example, our main 6 berth tent is a Vango Quest 600 (no longer made now) which is a family sized tent but made with their mountain range of materials (alloy poles, HH6000 fabric) and we have been extremely pleased with it, but our friends had a very saggy bedroom problem with a Vango Diablo 600.

the killington range was meant to cure the diablo problem of pitching inner first but they had quality issues with the 2007 models

I have been very happy with my Vango Colorado 800dlx. It has three pods, so there is privacy if required. It's on sale at £200 or so at a couple of places. There is a large sun canopy which increases the useable floor area hugely for cooking etc. for an additional £30ish.
It's in a striking black/mercury with orange sleeping pods which look pretty cool. I just bought an Idaho 600 and wind break for £100 for a quick break away, so I have covered all eventualities for about £330.
I would buy at the cheapest place (or get the price match). With Vango's legendary customer service, they will look after you and stand by their products. I wouldn't expect to have to pay to return a tent that was faulty.
With Ebay, they will ask you to pay for returns no matter what, so avoid like the plague! Obviously well cared for second hand is a different matter.
There is a thread about a cheap Outwell Norfolk lake at just over £500. I was very tempted, but they I am fairly new to camping, so don't want to go too mad. It's something like 70kilos too, so my poor old car won't cope with it!
I haven't tried my little Idaho yet, but wished I had bought that first, so I could take my time choosing - or not got a bigger tent at all maybe.
Just my thoughts, so hope I haven't rambled on too much!
Graham
