Hi,

Looking into a backpacking tent for myself and my son to go away in next year, see Dales way thread.

Has anyone any experience of this particular tent, I was looking at it at the Yeomans display in Ambleside over the weekend and it looks very good, room for us both and our kit and very light. They wanted 220 quid for it but a brief scan on ebay shows them for a bit less.

Would just like to know that it is up to the job, we plan to go around easter time which is quite early next year  (late March, we are gonna go for a week on the last satuday until sunday 7th april) so the weather could be wet and it might be ait chilly at night

If anyone can either recommend it or any decent backpacking tent that they use I would be grateful.

Cheers

JK

I was recently looking at backpacking tents, except for three people. I was looking at the Vango Spirit range but I decided I wasn't so keen on the tunnel design, in the end I went for a Vaude Mark 3, more expensive (about £250) and heavier at 4kg. However I think it was worth it, it is incredibly easy to set up (3 mins with pegs) also very waterproof (I was wild camping in scotland, the ground was sodden and it rained each night, and I didn't get at all wet).

Personally I think its worth to carry a bit extra weight for a stronger and more waterproof tent.

Thanks for that, will have a look at vaude stuff. If a 3 man is 4kg, perhaps they do a 2 man which is a little lighter?

i dont think they do a 2 man version of what I have, however they do have other lightweight options, they have :

taurus ultralight which is 2 man and weighs 1.95kg

However I recommend the Vaude Mark 2 light, its the same as the vaude mark 2 (3 person good quality tent) however they have changed the fabrics, making it more lightweight (it may be slightly less waterproof/durable but it still should be perfect for any camping in Great Britain) the best thing is : it only weighs 2.96 kg, however it is slightly more expensive

Again thanks, I have been looking at their website and the stuff looks good, the ferret 1 Ultralight and Taurus Ultralight both look good, as does the Hogan XT which still only weighs 3.390g and has what looks like good protection from the elements for cooking!

I will try to see if I can find a retailer with some on display, anyone know of one near Kendal?

JK
