Hi, I am new on here and had my 1st camping experience in Weymouth in August. Sadly we had storms and the site wasn't great so it has rather put my children off. I, however am still hoping to camp, in nice weather, and am looking to buy my own tent. The problem I have is that there will only be my 7 and 8yr old girls (2 of them) and me which makes putting a reasonable sized tent up rather difficult, especially as I've never erected a tent in my life. Can anyone recommend one for me? I want the biggest one I can get that I am capable of putting up myself and with the ground sheet attatched preferably. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't suggest a tent with a groundsheet attached as I have never used one.

The Kyham QE range would be ideal for you http://www.khyam.co.uk/product_tent.asp?category=Khyam%20QE&type=Family/Group

I am a solo pitcher and find the QE's a breeze to put up.

I have pitched the XXL Classic on my own before a friend who didn't have a clue bought it and I showed her how easy it was to pitch despite never having done it before. You will need a little help with it but your girls will be fine  for that (holding bits down if breezy, passing you pegs etc. It may be a good tent for you if you want seperate rooms, otherwise the XL classic would be lovely

Have a look at the videos on the page

There is no doubt that the Khyams QE range in the easiest tent to erect, but also quite expensive.  There is a new trend among many campers to purchase have smaller tents but also take a day tent.  This will undoubtably give you the room to you desire while keeping you tents a manageable size to erect.

Of course some sites do charge for day tents, for some they just charge for the pitch.

Can you give us an idea of the Budget you have and what tent you were camping in this year?

I've noticed a few posts recommending the Vango Idaho range.  They look nice tents and I must admit we've been tempted by these.  I'm sure someone can advise on timings etc.

Hi there and welcome :)

I have very limited experiance with tents as have only put two tents up this yearm one was a proline hyperdome tent from argos which the less said about the better, long story short it broke after 10 mins of being erected! so had to go back to local argos store and took the only other tent big enough for us all to fit in! which was a lichfield arapaho 4 person tent.

The lichfield was a complete doddle to put up, with minimum help from my 8 year old daughter, all she did was stop the pole from slipping off the pin while i fitted it to the other pin. We had it up within 45 mins for the very first time (from opening bag to making coffee) its got the two bedrooms either side of the entrance of which there are two (one either side of the tent) It doesnt have a sewn in ground sheet but the bedrooms are, it has plenty of head hight in the main area though the bedrooms are sit down only and it has little pockets in which to store the bedroom flaps instead of tying them back.

We pitched the tent on a rather windy day without any problems and during the first two nights it rained so hard we had ducks within 25 yards of our front door each morning! the good news was it didnt leak or flap about at all! Has plenty of guy lines to keep it secure. Another bonus with this tent is the size of it, approx 5 meters long and 2 wide and then folds down to a bag about 70cm long and 30cm wide. It was behind the passengers seat in the car with my daughter putting her feet on it when we had the car loaded

over all i was well impressed with this tent.

I would have to say well worth a look. especialy since it comes with a 3 year warentee!!!! so keep your reciept safe!

enjoy your stay here :)

ROB :)

Thanks guys, my budget will be under £200 and I've seen one I like in Decathlon with one big bedroom, which suits us as I want to sleep with my little girls, they don't want to be seperated either. That might be a Vango actually and it's £165. I'm just not sure properly about putting it up myself. I can't remember what tent I was in as it belongs to my friend but the wind opened all the zips and blew the ground sheet about.
