Hi , this is my first post here but have been lurking for a couple of weeks.

I know many here don't rate Ebay tents but I have recently bought one of these for £64 delivered ( link not working ? Ebay Item number: 160155132872     ) , it was posted yesterday from Germany and will hopefully be with me soon but I was wondering if anyone here has any experience of these tents at all ?

I'm not expecting a lot given the size of the tent and what I paid but I don't need an all seasons tent( just want a big cheap tent for occasional use ) and the seller only has 25 negatives from 7050 total feedback so the quality can't be too bad.

Hi Waynem41

To UKCS

I have just had a look at the item you have bought - all I would say is don't leave your feedback straightway.  You get 90 days to do this - use the time to thoroughly inspect your tent for taped seams - damages etc;  Erect the tent and see if it looks ok and there are no abnormalities with the shape - bedroom pods pulling too much on its straps etc;  Give the tent a good hosing over to simulate rain and check for leakages.

If you find small leakages make a note of where they are and when dry apply seam sealer available from all good tent and outdoor stockists.

Once you are entirely happy then leave your feedback.

I have heard of several people leaving feedback cos the tent arrived really quickly etc; and when the tent came to be used it was damaged, leaking badly etc;

Best of Luck and I hope it turns out to be a good tent for you.

Thanks for the advice both

Tent turned up today so I took it to a nearby field to put it up as I don't have enough room in my garden.

On erecting it I noticed a few small holes in the flysheet and a couple more on a seam ( pictures in my gallery ), nothing major and can easily be fixed with the supplied repair kit but not what I'd expected from a new tent so I have emailed the seller to see what can be done about it.

Apart from that it doesn't seem too bad for the money although I might put it in the free ads and get the Gelert Alaska 8 I was originally thinking about, saw one up at Gwent camping and immediately wished I hadn't bought the Ebay one.

I hope the seller gets back to you

As you say you would not expect that in a new tent and you should not have to unless it was mentioned in the article description - of which I am sure no-one in the right mind would buy

I would not however repair the damage yourself and dont tell the seller that you are prepared to repair it yourself as this will be his quick fix and still be quids in

Hope you get a satisfactory outcome

Had a look at your pics in gallery Wayne, and I must say that I feel you should demand a full refund from the seller. That tent is not fit for the purpose which it is sold for. How dare they supply a tent with holes in it?  An' the holes are just the obvious faults - how many more faults will you find with this tent when you try it out for real?

Don't fix it yourself, push for a refund. If they refuse, then open up a 'dispute' & report them to ebay.

I bought my tent from ebay, but the seller is a camping dealer and had 100% positive feedback. I wouldn't buy otherwise. I know it's a cheap intro, but a local store should have a cheap intro tent in the same price range and then you can take it back easily.

No matter how cheap the price, that is still your hard earned money. I believe you get what you pay for and would demand a full refund

Best Wishes

Checked out local stores and online but no one had a tent of similar size anywhere near that price, especially with a sewn in groundsheet.

The overall quality of the tent seems fine and the holes are possibly just a slight manufacturing fault , which is something even buyers of expensive brands have experienced sometimes so I'm still willing to try a replacement.

Seller did respond and offered to send some seam tape and self adhesive patches so I politely told him to , reminded him of this which was in the auction information ~

Quote: If you have received a faulty or incorrect item, you must notify us within seven days of receipt, we will then arrange to collect and replace the item within the usual timescales as indicated in the terms of delivery.

and told him to refund or replace.

If he doesn't honour that claim then I guess I'm going to be his 26th customer to leave negative feedback and if I haven't been offered a replacement or refund by Monday then I'll open a dispute with paypal .

Had a replacement outer sent to me but when I tried that it was so badly out of shape it was almost impossible to erect it .

I then requested that the seller either has the tent back and gives a full refund or I keep the original tent, fix the holes and get £25 refunded.

The seller replied quickly agreeing to the £25 refund , which I could be reasonably happy with as the tent then would have cost me £40 and I'd take a chance on making most of that back by selling it( repaired )in the local free ads which would save me the hassle of sending it back to Germany.

Unfortunately though four days since the refund agreement I still not had anything back in my paypal account so I have emailed again and if I don't get a reply or refund then I'll open a dispute later today.

I've now learnt my lesson and will be avoiding buying anything heavy / bulky from overseas again and will stick to a non ebay UK based supplier for my next tent which at the moment looks like a choice between a Gelert Alaska 8 or Lokon 6 but I did also like the look of the Aztec Falcon 8.

The negative feedback for the seller would have been enought to put me off Wayne.
I've just purchased an Aztec Falcon 8. I haven't had to chance to pitch it yet but I did have a look around one before I purchased it and I was impressed.
I guess I wouldn't have bought it, if I wasn't!
Gaynors had some good deals on a couple of weeks ago.

I still don't think 27 negatives against 7238 positives is too bad Rob , that's close to 1 in every 270 customers having cause for complaint.

Either their other customers will accept anything or I've been very unlucky to get 2 dodgy tents.

Having seen an Aztec falcon up is what impressed me too , looks a well made, solid tent and very roomy.

I'm not 100 % sure but I think the the shop where I saw the Falcon 8 has it at a similar price( but may have been the Falcon 6 ) to Gaynors which is a very good price but I'm not sure I'd use it enough to get value for money from it,at least I've got plenty of time to look as I won't be using a tent for a while now.

P.s. Still no reply from seller so I've now filed a paypal dispute.

I wasn't aware of how many positives there were Wayne. I take your point.
The price at Gaynor's was the best I found. The other places I looked all seemed to be asking for £300 or more.
Good luck with your dispute.

I would say it depends on what the feedback says and I would also take into account feedback that has been removed. As velvet kitty posted above, most buyer will give a positive as soon as they get the tent without testing it. I bet there would be a ton of negatives if they left feedback after they tested the tent.

Some good deals are to be had on ebay, but as I said before, research the seller. I have had no problems with Total Camping and I saved a load of money. He was selling the Nebraska XXL for 439 at the beginning of July and I asked if he would take 399 and he agreed and then I bought the footprint and we ended up with the carpet for free. We had some problems and we had a new tent within 3 days and he pick up the other at the same time. Had another problem with this one and he upgraded us to the Vermont L and the footprint and carpet. We had a non leaking issue with the Vermont and we have now been offered our choice of any tent from the new line in 2008. In the end, our family bought the Vermont L from them, footprint, and carpet for 230 and fixed it.

So if you do your homework, you will find a place that will take care of you. I'm happy I bought my tent off ebay, would not have received that deal anywhere until after the camping season ended. Also, ask for a sale. There is a huge markup in tents.

Hope you get your refund soon. The Aztecs do look nice.

Hi - I'm a new member but noticed your reference to Nordikcamping on ebay.   I have been delighted with their quality, sincerity and speed of transit.   Their web-site is just about the best I have seen for close up and clear photographs of the items and, in case you are an angler like me, they are selling just about the most comprehensive match wheely box I have ever seen.   I have started saving up already!

I had the refund soon after filing the dispute

Seller emailed me a few days later saying they had looked at a few of the tents and it looked as if they had a bad batch of that particular tent and would be listing their remaining stock of that model as seconds needing small repairs and would no longer get any more from the same supplier.

ciswo , what did you get from them ?
