we are new to camping,we have been a few times and it is true that each time you go you learn from your mistakes, forgetting things etc.....

but what id like to find is a new tent.......

the one we have we got recently but dont think it is great,it has been used a couple of times and it was good at the time but now we are realising its cheap crap.

i would appreciate any suggestions on what type/model is recomended

what we do know is that  we ........

like the dome shape

want a living area

want to be able to stand up(even if it is just in living area) tallest person 5.5

not sure what you call it but would like double skin??

and fully sig,we found it way to breezy!!!! (the one we have only has it in bedrooms

easy to erect

Hope im not being to fussy but i just thought maybe some of the more experienced members can help

Hi,

I've got a Gelert Cadiz 5.  It's a fantastic tent because it's a perfect size (for 2). You'll be able to stand in the living area.  It also has windows in the living area.  Also, it has a porch; but but, if you have the porch open you are protected at the side.  If you look at some tents, they have a porch but you have to lean out of it to look out.  Because the Gelert has the windows on either side you obviously can see out at a much wider angle from the comfort of your living area.  You are also protected from the wind even though you can still see outside. (through the windows).

I'm writing this late so I just hope it makes sense.

Enjoy your future trips!

Cheers,

David.

Hi,

Unlike Jimmy, I'm not experienced,  but...

How many of you? Any kids? Pets?

We were extravagent - Outwell Vermont XL for two adults, 1 kid. You can stand throughout - I'm 6'3" - and its huge. The only downside is time to put up: ~30 minutes to get up, ~1 hr to get sorted. And some idiot campsites want to charge double because of the size. [Not been to those sites and won't go]

mikeo we ve had one or two sites frown when we tell them our tent size. The last time was near scarborough .They asked the size of our tent and i said it was the same size as a caravan with an awning, they said what size is that. i pointed to a couple of caravans on the site and said the the same size as those two and i later found that they had charged two tents the same as ours double for their pitches.some sites think tents lower the tone

The above is a Sunncamp Sprint...advertised as 4 berth but in practicality it's 2 berth. It's very robust and stable with a SIG. We've got one and found it to be very good. Google around for the best price, they tend to vary wildly. It's also now available with an extra bedroom pod if you need a bigger version of it.

www.awnings.co.uk have a range of smaller tents at good prices. They're all reputable brands and the wynnsters especially have good reviews on here and look striaght forward to pitch. This might give you some idea of what you like.

Another site I've recently found has some good bargains on larger tents but also has some smaller ones www.gaynors.co.uk in the Aztec range, which is also a reputable make although not as well heard of as outwell, khyam, vango etc.

I'm sure others will point you in the direction of other sites that you can browse to get a sense of what you might prefer.

A 4 berth would give plenty of room for the 2 of you. Have a look at the Coleman Columbus 4. It is a 2 bedroom tunnel and so it is easy-peasy to put up. It has an almost full SIG ( not quite attached all the way round if I remember correctly- its been a while since I saw one) and it has standing height throughout. It also has windows and a good vent that runs the full length of the rear so that condensation really should not be a problem. Coleman are excellent built quality.
