Hi all, Im going to be going up to the lake district the weekend after next on the friday night, I actually have a caravan up there but wont be able to use it until saturday.
Rather than get a B&B for the night, me and my mate are going to 'wild camp' the friday night for an early start on Scafell. I plan on walking hadrians wall soon and thought I might aswell buy the tent for it now!
Soooo, I need a tent!
I will begrudgingly spend upto 200 quids on one, however would much prefer around 100. If needs must I can spend up to 300 but please try and keep it near the 100 if you can! I need the tent to withstand all kinds of weather, I enjoy walking much more when the weather is not in my favour! I also need to be able to pitch it quick as no-one likes pitching a tent in the rain/wind/dark (or even snow if the tent is up for it!). Also it needs to be lightweight as I will be carrying it on my own most of the time. Ideally I would like space for two people as I plan on taking my dog with me when I go on my lil missions so a one and a half man tent is needed!
I am all flustered as Im buying in a hurry, Ive got two weeks to choose a tent, go see if I like it and then find the cheapest place to get it from haha. Ive been searching the internet and have just confused myself.
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME! I cant even find a site that compares a few of them!

Have a look here for user reviews. This may give you a start, but I'm sure some experienced backpackers from this forum will give you a few suggestions later today
For hill walking/camping you really need to set yourself a weight limit, 3 kilo absolute max i would say for a 2 man. also for all weather i would say a min of 4000mm hyrdostatic head of good quality fabric. remember a lot of weights on websites are for bare mimimum to keep to tent up so actual weight may be 1/2 kilo heavier.
I went for the g2 trek xt from these folks, had to go for the extra porch space as the g/f was adamant.
if not its quite a good guide on what to look for.
have to say they are fantastic tents with a 'lifetime' guarantee, the only downside is ours is inner pitch first which isnt ideal but i can pitch it on my own in about 10 minites (15 all pegged out and in)
i use a coleman epsilon 2 and have friends who travel with me who use coleman epsilon 3 and coleman avior 3 models, all superb tents can't fault them, go for a epsilon 3 if you can find one (last years model) failing that an avior 3 as it's just a 2007 update of the epsilon really and is just different colours really plus it has a groundsheet in the porch section which the epsilon hasn't. quick and easy to pitch, to pack away don't fold it just stuff it in the sack.
Im gonna leave it and stop in a youth hostel the friday night, I need more time to go round looking at them, I dont want to rush myself into anything and then regretting it when its too late and lashing it down with rain haha
Ill let you all know when I buy one and tell you what I think of it!
I did Scafell Pike and Great Gable a couple of weeks ago and the cloud came in very low after 1.00pm...we didn't reach either summit until after 1.30pm (I'm toooo laaazy to get up early!) so missed any sort of view...if you get a chance, take some pics if it's clear up there and let us see? Superb place, great people. FYI I have a Coleman 3 man weighing in at 3.4kg, We wild camped at the Styhead tarn last year (May) and managed ok with this tent in my pack...mind you, I made sure the other two carried their fare share (don't know whether you will be packing panniers on your mutt though?)
Happy trails

This is not a bad place for pictures of the Lake District fells Striding Edge
I agree, a great place. I can't wait until I'm there next.
I'll make sure I have a look. Funny I took the kids for a walk in August onto the lower slopes of Great Gable and I've got some pictures that sound just like yours! The whole area was covered in cloud. I was hoping to get them far enough to see the 'Pike' but we were doomed with the weather.
