I currently own a very spacious winfield tent which is great in the summer but it is no go for winter/spring/autum camping and genrally is dusted off in April and packed away in September.

I am looking to get a 2nd small tent to use for one nighters and in the winter for warmth, stability, quickness to erect(my current tent takes 20mins inc porch). My budget is around £100, I want outer first or as one.

I have to admit I have fallen in love with the Phad X I like the shape and the space you get inside and the ease to put up (it is as one). I am currently looking at both the two and the three as I am a bit of a luxury camper in the sense I am not usually seen without my boxed airbed whilst camping so am torn between keeping it small for warmth and getting the bigger one for comfort.

I am not too bothered by wieght or pack size as anythng is going to look small next to a 5 person tent although I do hope that I may take both in the future to camp for one night in the small and longer in the big (I can only drive about 4-5 hours).

So any other recommendations? do I get the 2 or 3 if I go for the X Phad? and what have coleman improved in the 2008 version? what are they like to cook in when it is raining is it possible?

Thanks

Hannaxxx

Phad X is a great tent. No changes for 2008
There will be a hi spec version of the Phact X2 and 3, designed for hi altitude mountain use

Hi Hanna,

if you're to be cooking within the tent then its advisable to only use a small stove, like a campingaz gas stove (206 or 270). The Phad looks to be a good option. There is no actual change in spec from 2007 to 2008. Heh, you're like me in that I always go for an extra berth size so that I have more space to spread out! I recall Robens do a range of lightweight tents also. I've found the Robens Light Dreamer tent at £129 - a little over your budget but the spec is really quite good.

Hope this helps

Gazaa

gazaa - I only have a small coleman stove and a cobb which I do most of my cooking on I hope that we will be able to cook outside but if push comes to shove! will look at the robens.

Hanna, the Phad X3 is basically the rebranded Quartz 3 (Note the Phad X2 is totally different to the Quartz 2). The Quartz 3 is an excellent little tent so if you want to save a few pennies you could always pickup a bargain Quartz 3.

I have looked at the quartz 3 and it is the same price pretty much as last years models of the phad X3 world of camping has some very good deals at the moment. Seems mad to me but I'm not complaining!

good choice

Crucial difference between the old Quartz and the Phad (both 2 and 3 person versions) is that the Phad has 2 entrance doors, whereas the Quartz has only 1.
Means you don't need to re-pitch if the wind direction changes.
