Been shopping around for tents recently and came acrossed this tent in the 08' Model. It all seems nice enough but ive never really had any experince with outwell.Has anyone got any "operating" pictures of this tent, last years model proberly so i can get an idea of it properly. it looks pretty big in store but im unsure if it big or comfy enough for me the mrs and the dog(labrador). Were do people cook in this type of design also?

Many thanks

Firstly, regarding cooking: the general advice would be don't! This is a very enclosed tent.  Cook outside or get a cook/utility/dayroom tent.

The easy way to check whether this is last year's or this year's model is whether it is double skin throughout (inner tent pitched first) which is last year's model, or single skin with pods (outer pitched first) which is is this year's model.

Not used either but many do and I'm sure that someone will be along soon.

Hi Lightyears,

My Mum and Dad have the Harford L... not the 2008 variant, but the previous model. They too had a Labrador..who sadly passed away. (They now have a Chocolate Lab pup) and the Harford L was a perfect size for them all, as it has two sleeping pods. One to kip in and one to store their stuff, or doggy!!

We went camping with them last year... we have the Outwell Georgia XL, which is large! and we still ended up in their tent  in the rain! (4 adults, 2 kids and a black Lab!!).

The main living area is ample for what you need. On the previous model, the front door opened up so that you could make a canopy, so when it was raining they put the stove outside, but under that, not in the tent as such, but offering some rain protection.

The 2008 model should be good as it is single skin so probably slightly easier to pitch?

Also, for cooking under, you could also consider a tarpaulin, which comes with poles, you can pitch it in a number of ways, providing shelter in rain, wind and shine. They are a weebit smaller and lighter weight that some of the other options. Outwell do one; Decathlon do one; as do many other manufacturers... I'm sure that somebody will come along soon with their recomendations.

Jo

I personally would really recommend last years model, had a look at the 2008 Hartfords and Im really underwhelmed.
As for cooking, if you do get a Hartford consider the porch, its brilliant for storing & cooking.
We have the XL & the M there is a piccie in my gallery showing the porch.

I haven't seen the 2008 model, but my niggle would be that now it's single skin.... will it be prone to leaks? like the Nebraska, Monty's, Vermonts etc. Whereas the previous models don't have an issue with this and have been a very reliable tent.

Well its dearer so in my view you are getting half as much tent for more money.
If you like the shape I personally would look at the Georgias, much better designed pods & double skinned for that comfy feel.

Have a look at the pitching video HERE which may help you decide on whether it's right for you.
