Victoriafin, they said they would have to return it to the supplier to be checked because i didn't want another one or even a different tent but i had already told one guy about problems we had when we test pitched it only the week before, i think if i hadn't have spoke to him the week before, they would have not given me my money back. They are sending my tent off to be tested and they said if more came back with the same problems then they would probably recall them. He told me 1 polycotton tent had been returned due to damage with a pole to a seam, but we were the only nylon version. Our sig was no problem(apart from it not sitting right) it was all the windows leaking in the heavy rain and i mean leaking! Hope you get sorted. They normally have great customer service in outdoor world.

Hi,

We've had the (nylon) tent a couple of months now but have yet to unpack it from it's box and get it into the open air. All being well the weather should still be fine at the weekend and we're looking to erecting it for the first time in the back garden before we head off into the Yorkshire Dales with friends later this month.

Reading that people have had various problems with their tent, is there anything specific we should be looking out for?  For instance:

  • Is the tape sealant in place around the windows (or anywhere else too), or are there obvious gaps where it hasn't been welded correctly?
  • Is the fabric of the groundsheet treated evenly or are there patches or gaps where water-proofing or tape hasn't been applied?  We have the extra ground footprint sheet but would be interested to hear it there is anything obvious on the groundsheet to look out for.
  • Has the flysheet been treated correctly or could the rain that people experienced, that led to a leak, be down to the fact that the intensity of rain was enough to cause the flysheet to leak, i.e. that the hydrostatic head figure of the tent was exceeded and the flysheet had enough?  Like many other people we've experienced this with other tents too but the rain was really belting it down and that was that.

If you read this post before the weekend and have chance to reply that would be great. We'll have a better idea what to look out for.

Ta,

Rick

Hi Cleach, the actual leak was coming through the stitching on the seems above the air vents on the full width of all the windows. There was that much coming through, we actually wrung the fly screens out! The rain is supposed to run off the vents on the outside of the window but the rain ran in instead! There was a leak in the seam in the side porch which could have been sealed with sealant if that had been the only leak. Yes the rain was very heavy but if 1500hh is supposed to be fine for this country, 5000hh should have been good for very heavy rain IMO. The footprint ground sheet was not in sync with the footprint of the tent. We had no leaks in the ground sheet and this looked in good condition or would have if it had sat flat on the floor.

We had torrential rain last year in our third of the price Wynnster Mallard (2000hh) and not even a single drop came through! I am gutted as this tent really did tick all the boxes for me but i had a feeling in the back of my mind they might have teething problems.

Hope you have better luck than we did and hopefully our was just a one off.
