I called in a Camperlands today.  What a great shop!  I can't believe I haven't gone there before.

I was looking at the side entrance to the Montana and Minnesota and noticed how the plastic "brackets" that the flexible fibreglass poles of the side entrance fit into were in contact with/rubbing against the flysheet fabric.

Is this a point of weakness?  Will friction occuring between the plastic and the flysheet compromise the waterproofing and/or strength of the flysheet?

Any thoughts or anecdotes gladly received.

Never had a problem even through the rough and wet weather last year. We just make sure the buckles are tensioned on the end caps.

No problems with any leaks at the side entrance however I have a split pole  that I put down to this pole having to bend through 180 degrees over the length of the approx 4 foot span that creates the hooped enterance.I believe that the stress on this pole then led to it splitting.

Mick, did the split pole damage the fabric of the tent?

No it just split a quarter of the way along the pole section when I noticed it .I then used some strong waterproof tape and its been ok but I will have to get round to a more permanent repair, otherwise its a great tent simple and quick to erect and has stood up to some pretty strong winds.

Our retailer said if you want to shorten the pole you can do and it won't invalidate the guarantee.
