Sorry, I completely disagree with your theory. I could see condensation causing some water but not standing water. We had 3 leaky tents last year and not one case of a condensation problem......even with 2 extra people breathing along with us and our 2 children.
We had water coming in at the bottom of seams where there were hooks and such and also where the sig met the tent fabric. While all this was going on, we didn't have condensation on the ceiling so there was nothing to drip or run!!!
To back up a bit, we were told by Yeomans that they didn't hear of any problems with Outwell (loved that one) and by our retailer that we were the only ones complaining about leaky Outwells (I felt horrible). Come to find out, now at the outdoor show, Yeoman's admitted there was a problem and turns out our retailer has had a load of customers unhappy due to leaky tents.
These tents should have been recalled and something better should have been done about it.
Myth or reality? I think you have a clearer picture now on what is myth and what is reality.
I should add that the strength of these tents are excellent. Not all the models had problems as different models were outsouced to different warehouses. From what the Outwell rep told me is that these warehouses also make other brands of tents as well. I was also told that this situation was supposed to be done differently this year. So, perhaps as you were standing in a dry tent, it's because they are being manufactured properly and perhaps Outwell have got their act together.
Maybe you could find a show with all the leaky tents from last year, I'm sure if they put them all up in one place (could take you a long, long time to go into each tent) it would take acres and acres of land.
And yes, I expect a dry tent for my hard earned cash. I never had a leaky tent until I bought an Outwell. If I can have a dry tent from other manufacturers then you bet your bottom dollar that I expect it from all of them, especially since I've paid over £450 pounds along with accessories. I've been camping all my life, so I have a bit of experience.
