Its so hard to decide what tent to go for! I thought I'd decided on the Outwell Oregon twin but am dithering!
I like the vis-a-vis designs, but now I don't know whether to go for a SIG or not (which Oregon 5 doesnt have) and I'm also thinking about midge protection! My main wishes are a tent that will stand up to high winds (e.g. for camping north & NW scotland/islands) but also has mesh doors so that you can sit in the central area and be protected from the midges. This is probably a really stupid or obvious question but I suppose that having a SIG is also needed?
My current tent is tiny but has no-see-um mesh doors that work. I have 2 dogs that would sleep in the central area. I don't need anything huge, just 2 rooms plus reasonable central area. I don't mind paying more for something that would be really good. There's nowhere near me where I can view different tents. Has anyone got any suggestions/advice? Although I like the vis-a-vis, I'm happy to look at other options.
Thanks!

I'm afraid that I have to disagree with rozinante. I am getting a new tent precisely for the midge issue. The Lakeside 4 is a good, well-designed, strong tent but we really struggled with the midges in Wales last year just for the couple or so hours around dusk (I rarely see dawn so the midges didn't bother me then). So we are looking at a tent with a SIG so that we can sit in the living area and laugh at those midges from behind the protection of a mesh.
No problem disagreeing with me FS. In fact I thought it was compulsory round here. ;)
Not sure if you fully understood my post though. I wasn't suggesting they just put up with them, just that there were options other than allowing it to dictate the important choice of which tent to buy.
Making me itch just thinking about them. I suffer very badly from them myself and carry scars for years from them. Hope you find you midge free refuge though. Bear in mind of course that Scottish midges are smaller than mosquitos and need a finer mesh to stop them.
My own solution... run for the hills. ;)

Hi everyone thanks for the feedback so far! Yes I'm just looking for some protection inside the tent for dawn/dusk times if midges are bad so that I can make use of the lounge space at those times. Seeing as I'm changing tents I thought I may as well try to get the most appropriate I can, if it exists! The only reason for changing tents is to have a lounge area which can be used if its rotten outside and to have somewhere for the dogs at night (previously they've slept in the car). Its a wrench though because I love my current tent and its always stood up to all weathers, it feels quite sad to be thinking of replacing it............ Standing up to strong winds is also high priority.
Any other suggestions/advice gratefully received! Thanks.
It sounds as though you want something similar to what I'm looking for. I'll probably go for the Outwell Minnesota 4 (though the Outdoor Revolution Scenic 5 is still a possibility). If you require more space than that, however, there is the Minnesota 6 and Montana 6. None of them have the vis-a-vis design that you mentioned at the head of this post but they are sturdy in the wind and have good space (an obscene amount of space, in the case of the Monty).
Thanks for that, I'll have a look at those. The other one that I've just seen that looks hopeful is North Face Trailhead 6 but I havent as yet found out if it has mesh doors/SIG. So many options aren't there!
