I am looking to buy a tent in the next few weeks preferably 6 berth but need to be able to put it up myself, after a web search favourite seems to be the Khyam range, can anyone tell me anything about them ? are they really as easy to put up as it looks in the video ?

they are very easy, I can put up the xxl alone in minutes. The pack is quite big and heavy though. They have tri-guys as well which means less pegging which agai helps with pitching quickly.
The first couple of times it will take longer as you have to be firm with them and as they don't come cheap you handle them with kid gloves. Once you have done it once you will then start throwing it up in no time.
One of the benefits for single handed erecting is that you can peg as you are putting it up or taking down and you will not be tent gliding over the camp site.
Downside is weight as the main pole are already attached.
The main tent goes up very quickly, the only thing that takes time is pegging the guys out,(this differs on each model, my tourer is quite quick, but the ridgi-dome take ages) but you can potter around doing that at your leisure, as once you have a few guys in, they won't go anywhere, even if its windy,
Mat.

we did a great deal of touring last year around Ireland, so needed a tent to put up and take down quickly as we stopped some 15 times for a day here and there. Spent a long while looking round and the advice given from this site was really helpful . Found the Khyam pole system just great and so quick. We have the Khyam XL classic and also have the annex. Using it again as we are touring Holland Belgium and France this year for 3 weeks. What is good if its raining you can pitch it really quickly with in minutes, where as several other tents can take quite a while.
Hi Sweet, I've got XL classic and yes, erecting the tent is as easy as it looks in the video once you have done it once or twice. As Oldham has pointed out, you need to get the 'feel' of snapping the poles into place so don't get disheartened on your first go (I did!). One thing to bear in mind with this tent though is that if you bring it home wet it isn't very easy to dry out indoors. Because the frame is integral you can't just drape it over the banisters, spread it out in a small spare room or hang it from a line in the garage. Ideally it needs to go out into a sunny garden - but if it's still raining..............
Hi there, we have the Chatsworth which is the same erect system (ooooo er) and it is brilliant. It is a s good as it says on the packet and would hightly recommend it.

With khyam you can also buy different additions to add on to your tent such as the sun porch or the annex or even a sun canopy. This gives you more options for the size you may want, Sometimes you dont want to take too much etc and spend long setting up the tent just for a weekend, then for longer stays take all the additions for that extra space.

Had a bit of a disaster this weekend with my Khyam XL and have a broken pole. Has anyone actually managed to replace these. I'm thinking it looks complicated enough on the video and that lucky chap hasn't got masses of tent and poles around him to deal with.
Its the joint that joins the ceiling to the wall iykwim and the joint and pole have both snapped. Can email pics if it would help.
Alternatively, does anyone know anywhere near Sheffield tha would stock these poles and/or be able to replace them for me. I've tried CCC but they don't have any and I don't think Towsure stock Khyan tents. Speed is of the essence as I'm due to go away again at Spring Bank
Try Camperlands at Northenden Manchester they used to do repairs there as well. I have had to replaced a joint after standing on it And yes it's just like in the video.
Downside is weight as the main pole are already attached.
We have separated the inner pod, the groundsheet and the poles for the bedroom bit for our XL Excelsior and keep them all in the pole bag, with the outer in the tent bag on its own. This now means I can lift the mighty beast on my own! I'm sure I could put it up on my own too, but I mgiht need to buy some of those fold flat steps to reach the highest point and attach the inner.
