I'm thinking of buying a Vango Orchy 500 or 600.  I need to be able to pitch it by myself - has anyone achieved this or think it would be possible.

Thanks

(Any other recommendations for 5 or 6 man tents that can be pitched by alone lady!)

I think it's definately possible. We have the Sumatra version which is the 600 in polycotton. It's heavier than the regular Orchy 600 and my hubby and I got it pitched in 25 mins, that was our first try. But I know either of us could have put it up easily on our own. What really makes it easy is the back part of the tent is a tunnel tent and then you have the dome. You only have 1 full length pole for the back and then 2 full poles for the dome part. The other poles are just connecting poles.  So quite simple to erect.

I'm sure our pitching time will be much faster the more we erect it.

One note, when they say the orchy 600 will sleep 6, that is sleeping shoulder to shoulder.

Thanks MamaBear

Thanks really re-assuring.  We currently have an Outwell Sunvalley 8 - great tent but definately needs 2 to put it up. I want to downsize for short weekends and take our 2 sons camping without my husband during the holidays.  I know if I ask for help I'm sure people would help but if everyones on the beach....

That was the exact reason we bought it. We got ours for only 175 as it was a sample tent and then because a toggle was missing they had given us a 25 pound refund.  We had the Vermont L and definately needed 2 people and better suited to long weekend and weeklong holidays.

We no longer have the Vermont due to problems and is being replaced with a Bear Lake 6 and I know that will weigh a ton.

Let me know how you get on and best wishes.

Ended up going cycling instead of tent viewing as intended.  Will wait until next weekend now.  I think I'll probably go for 6 berth.

Just pitched our new Orchy over the weekend. The grape colour is more greyish than the pinky colour shown in most pictures.

Needed a bit of a handfrom hubby to lift the crossing poles for the dome up, but otherwise very easy and light to pitch and very ligh and airey inside.

We bought it as a second tent as we found our Outwell Indiana 6 a bit too heavy and bulky to cart around and put up just for a weekend.

After struggling with the basic sewn in instructions in the bag and putting the tent up in about twenty mins we managed to take the tent down and while putting it back in the bag, (it took a few attempts to fold it tight enough), found the DVD with the pitching instructions!
