This is my first post. I'm hoping someone might be able to help me a tent to take camping with my 4 year old in the summer. Last year I took a Quechua pop up, but it was very cramped.
So my requirements are:
easy to put up on my own (I have a chronic illness, so pretty weak physically) standing room separate area for belongings reasonable price
Hope someone can point me in the right direction.
Bev

The vango venture 5 seems to be a favourite for solo pitching, its always been well recommended on here, and I know that many ladies have them for camping alone with their kids.
Hi Bev and welcome to ukcs! I don't know what tent you need but just wanted to say, on most sites, no one would stand and watch you struggle to put up a tent on your own! I could honestly say if it were us, Jay would help you put the tent up and i would watch your little one for you! Campers on the whole are a caring and friendly bunch. Good luck in your search
------------- Always Kate unless Jay is looking over my shoulder :) x
Kate I usually do get help on sites, but in the summer I go to a big party where everyone camps in a field and I just can't be sure of the help, so I'd rather be prepared!

I have a vango venture 500 and am able to put it up single handed no bother at all. Great size bedroom for you and little one and a big enough living area for a table and couple of chairs.
Hi, i dont know what area your from but if you have a winfields near you they have some good tents on display, you could have a look and get advice from the staff. i have found them very helpfull. good luck with your camping.
I'm also watching a sovereign 4 person tent (originally from argos) - does anyone know anything about these - it's at £15 with no bids - auction finishes sunday.
Cheers
Bev

Of those three, I'd vote for the Idaho every time. It would be as easy to put up as the VVenture but its the right way round ie more height (dome) in the standing up/living area and less in the lying down/sleeping area (tunnel). As I understand it, the Idaho was Vango's successor to the Venture, so they were building on the strengths of the Venture ie its simplicity, ease of use and value for money, but further improving the design.
I think Vango have now gone on a stage further and tittivated the Idaho into an Orchy, which means that if you can get hold of a 2007 Idaho it should be at an even better value price than it was last year. Good luck. MT

Hi I have a Khyam Tourer 200, which I bought a couple of years ago at a bargain price. Not sure if it still available, but if you could find one I can recommend it. I can put this up on my own no problem. I am planning to camp with my three year old grand-daughter so am in a similar situation to you.
Quite like the Vango Orchy though particularly the girly pink one - your daughter would love that
Have googled the Tourer 200 and it is quite expensive on some sites - this one is a good price
let us know what you decide to buy, I am always interested in tents which can be put up by one person.

Hi, I am a newbie too, also a single mum with a six year old son. I just bought a Royal la Rochelle 4 and its pretty much a replica of that one in Argos, only better I believe as it's fire retardent and the Argos one isn't! I got mine on ebay from a Camping shop for £60 inc postage, so the same price as Argos too. I posted a message asking for help on erecting and did it today on my own in about an hour and a bit. The only hard bit really was the height as it was taller than me erected, but then you do have the standing room! I am really looking forward to camping in July and especially as I have also heard fellow campers are more than happy to lend a hand if you are struggling!
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who responded.
I'm going to have a look at the Sunncamp Evolution 400 tomorrow. Can't find a Vango Idaho 5 to look at but will look at the Vango Orchy. I've decided to go for a SIG. I'm also going to look at a Royal Seattle 4, but not sure how easy that is to put up.

I'm probably going to buy the Evolution 400 as well.
I did mention on a different thread which I started that I was very keen on the Vango Orchy. However I don't think it's a practical single handed tent.Pity.
Well having seen lots of tents - I'd almost definately decided on the Idaho. Now I've seen the Yukon on ebay. Might go for it - hope it's not too big for me to put up!
