We are planning to do some backpacking walks and thinking of buying a Coleman Phad X2 - we are new to this and wondered if 3.5kg was an ok weight to think about carting through the countryside! There are 2 of of us so we could split the pack into bits...Any advice gratefully received.

3.5kg will be okay split between two of you, but make sure that you see one on display & both of you try out the sleeping pod for size - some manufacturers allow for 'stick insects' when they state the berth .
There are much lighter tents available for backpacking, but most are a hek of a lot more money than the Phad. I like the look of the Coleman Adrenaline too.
I've got the Coleman Adrenaline 2 which is superb (very weatherproof), but a little heavy for backpacking (about the same as the Phad X2) so I mainly use it for car touring. Instead, I have also bought a Coleman Avior X2 and X1 which are much lighter and still weatherproof, although quite small inside (not that i am worried about that when backpacking). However, they do have duel entry doors and space in the porch for kit, they also pack down to a neat small bag that easily fits inside a rucksack.

I have a coleman epsilon which has a porch and two door entry, weighs 2.6kg.Also you put it up flysheet first or as one..Good for keeping inside tent dry if raining.

Many thanks for advice - does anybody know any camping shops where we could see a Phad X2 up? Herts/Essex area or NW England preferably.
