Hi
I have an XL for about 5 years and it has been great. Lots of room to sit inside in bad weather. We reckon 2 sleepers to a pod - really not room for three. Fantastic tent but does take a while to put up and down (kids can be very helpful, or not!) - not difficult, just a lot of it!
Mine has stood up to a lot of bad weather and last year I managed to break several poles in a bad storm. Remember to take spare pole sections and repair kit.
Your other option is to buy a more modestly sized main tent and have smaller tent(s) as annexes for some of the kids to sleep in. It could mean more flexibility in the future if some/all of the offspring don't come with you.
