Hi, I am just about to buy my first family tent. The one that I quite fancy is the Wynnster Carina 8.  Does anyone have any opinion on this tent?  Regards Geoff

We have just bought this tent.  Wynnster is a good make so you should be fine with it.  The mesh on the inner door will be a godsend in the warmer weather.  Have you seen one up yet?  The websites just don't do it justice.  Excellent bedroom configuration and the side bedrooms are a very good size.  Really good porch area with additional door which I thought would come in very handy when cooking.  We have booked to go away later this year and had no problems with pitch size either.  Let us know how you get on.

Should have said, the Carina is a new model this year so there might not be many owners yet.

Thanks Taek1,

This is helpful.  We saw one up at a local dealer an were impressed....big, but not toooo big if you get my meaning.  Do you need additional ground sheeting?  My friends are are going on about double linning?  Regards Geoff

You might want to put a cheap tarpaulin underneath the tent to protect the sewn in groundsheet on your tent.  Stops it getting dirty and protects from stones.

We have an old groundsheet that we will put underneath the tent for the reasons Kate points out.  Think the porch groundsheet is included.  Will confirm if it is, if it is finally sunny this weekend and we can put the tent up!!

We have just put ours up in the garden.  Took us quite a while first time as the instructions were not too clear.  Spent ages looking for the steel poles that it was talking about for the roof only to realise the ones that go in between are fibre glass!!  Having said that, the tent feels lovely and I can't wait to go away in it.  So many features that we had forgotten about or didn't realise about.  Exciting stuff!!

Did you go for the footprint groundsheet?  We think we will probably invest in one as the one we thought we could use isn't suitable.

Hi, we did put ours up too! and we had exactly the same issue! I thought is was my wife's instructions, but when i reed the instructions it was very un clear and took about 1.5 hours to put up.  Now we have done it once I reakon it will take about 45mins.  Very happy with it though.  I agree the mesh vents will be great in the hot weather.  We bought a square carpet to go in the main area.  Wynnster don't do one (that size) and this was 'dolphin' from Royal at GBP30.  They didnt have the foot print ground sheets in stock and will get me one in from Wynnster tomorrow I told them I had seen them on the web for GBP25 so we will see if they match it!  Enjoy!  Best regards Geoff Hamiton - Poole Dorset

We thought about 45 minutes as well.  Might look at the carpet (although OH thinks that we don't need one!).  Let us know if you think the footprint is any good.

I just posted this question in the wrong place by mistake. D'oh. Newbie mistake. Now of course I'm posting the same question twice by putting where I meant to. D'oh again. Anyway here it was.......

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone's tried out their Carina 8 in anger yet.  Currently have an Aztec dome/tunnel design, but were looking at the Carina 8 as it seems to be a very well thought out design, what with the sewn-in groundsheet to the living area, and completely separate porch area (by door & having its own groundsheet).  The one thing that worries me slightly is how it will perform in a strong wind. Two features concern me (1 - the overhanging canopy which appears integrated with no way of storm-proofing it !, 2 - what would be the "dome" area in most designs appears (over the living area) appears to be fairly unsupported by poles & is quite a big span).  So has anyone seen this tent in some wind & how did it go ? One of my local tent suppliers seems to be trying to put me off it, saying I should steer clear of tunnels!

I've not even seen one yet - just going on my surfing, but with above reservation it looks a great tent.

Haven't used our tent yet but hope I can help.  The dome area has two steel poles at the front and two at the back with fibre glass poles running between these poles.  There are no poles that cross over the dome but I would have thought that the fact that the side poles are steel would help support it.  Don't think this is a problem but in all honesty it won't be being used in bad weather.  The canopy (from memory) has 3 guying points and a pole which runs round the canopy which fits into some webbing at the bottom of the canopy.  There seem to be a few tents that have this design and because they are designed as a permanent fixture may be better than a canopy which is an add on.  Hope that helps.
