Hello everyone

Thinking of getting a carpet for my Ontario  8 as have seen some in other tents in camping shops and it looks really cosy.  I have four youngsters and wondered if anyone has one and if they are worth the money also if they stand up well to the adverage camping trip with kids ect ie do they wash.  Also any ideas about where I can get the best price on one.  Have seen one on outdoor megastore but they have the same tent by the look of it called by a different name and a carpet to fit it.  Is it the same do you think? Any advice appreciated

Best wishes Maria

I've just got the Kansas 8 from Outdoor Megastore, I ordered the carpet at the same time.

They sent me an Outwell carpet, and not the Khyam one, claiming it was exactly the same size, and would be fine. It was a lot smaller, and I was pretty grumpy with them.

They didn't have any proper Khyam carpets, I ended up ordering one from World of tents I believe.

As for the carpet - highly recommended, we needed the warmth, as we've been away already. It also protects the SIG nicely, especially if you've got chairs etc "indoors"

My two kids love it, and quite happily lie on the floor and draw etc.

Its quite big when packed though.

I got a free bag with my Khyam. I've now split the tent across these two bags. The flysheet, poles, pegs and hammer - ie everything needed to pitch are in one.

All the bedrooms, carpet, and a few folding storage things are in the other, the system works well. My 10year old daughter enjoys setting out the bedrooms etc, so I can just throw her the 2nd bag, and she gets on with it :-)

I have & still use the open weave matting- the sort that comes off the roll & is cut to length by the running metre. It is rubbberised or another sort is more plasicky. Can also get it in varying size packs. Not cheap but so useful. I have 4*3 & 2 of 3*3 pieces. We first bought them more than 10 yrs ago & still holding out. Are wam to the feet, can be slung in sea, river, or hosed down to clean.  Most camping outlets sell this material.

My mate has the ontario 8, he went to a carpet shop, bought a cheap thin end of roll carpet and cut it to size and its perfect, hes used it twice and hel be using it again in july, all it takes when you get back is a quick hoover and its ready for next year.

Thanks for all the lovely ideas, think I've talked myself into one however.  Carpet is a good idea but I pack so much think the wheels would fall off the trailer if I tried that. (very luxurious though) The rugs are good idea too bet they are easier to clean but I have four young kids and I bet i'd spend most of the trip putting them back straight, and they would spend most of theirs tripping over them.  Think I like your idea mlyn.gravell in our dayroom as the kids eat in there and it looks like feeding time at the zoo so hosing it down after a trip would be great and it would make it cosy as they play in there when the weather's not too good. Think I'm going to have to go online and treat us esp as we do tend to go away in the wet alot, But thanks for the warning moglite we were thinking of that one from that store but wondered why they supply outwell ones for their version of our tent.  Will order a proper one as it would really irritate me too if it didn't fit right. Oh dear more money and now I want two different ones, thanks for all your help everyone.
