Went to camping world today (quite impressed by their display by the way), and saw the Colorado 5. We'd initialy considered the 7, but couldn't view it anywhere. The 5 with a front extension (2.8m extra) seems ideal. Anyone used this configuration ? (I'm curious whether the tent's zip off front can be zipped onto the front of the extension...)
Cheers,
Tim

I have just had a look and it it seems to fit the same way as the Montana extension. No zips involved it clips on to the second roof pole in and works the same then as the rest of the tent. So simple, our extension takes about 10 min to erect.
We have had a look a the extensions and having seen them on site, but have decided that it's really not worth it as they do not give much extra room. You can't zip the front of the tent to it.
Once the poles and guy ropes are up you are left with quite a limited usable 'floor space.'
------------- Why can't we live in the tent..?

Ruth,
Thanks for the pointers... while the extra width of the Indiana is nice, the overall living space is a bit short for us. We'd be considering the Colorado 5 only in combination with the extension (with 2 toddlers, it's the rainy days which bothers us, and somewhere sheltered to cook etc while the kids do colouring inside sounds good !).
Taviour,
Thanks for the zip info. A shame that ! it would have made a really nice living area if you could put the front wall half way down the extension...never mind.
Regarding the overall usefulness of the extension, I was hoping to use it as a kitchen on a rainy day, and extra shade on a sunny day. From the ones you've seen you don't think it'll be too good for that ? at 2.8m long, it's the same size as the indoor living area...
Thanks again for your input. It's good to get info from someone who's actually seen one !
Oh, Taviour, while I'm at it, one more question: the Colorado 5 we saw on display had not mud flap on the side door... do you get rain dripping into the ground sheet on a rainy day ? it looked likely...
Cheers,
Tim

Ok, but consider how much the extension will add in terms of useable space, you can cook under a canopy away from the kids. If you want useable space to sit in and play for the kids i would focus on space inside the tent rather than an extension which has no groundsheet and is open to the elements at one end.
we have an indi 8 and the front canopy fits a cooker stand under with side table and doubleburner/grill (see gallery)and keeps you dry whilst cooking with plenty of air to let the fumes/grease etc go away, have even had the barbeque under in the rain, it lets the smoke out unlike an enclosed extension. At the other side it will also fit one of the blue picnic tables with the stools attcahed. if we need more shelter we put up a windbreak round the back.
ahhh... when looking at that type of front canopy on display tents, I'd assumed they wouldn't provide much shelter from the rain unless there was really no wind at all (as they are completely open on the sides).

Thanks for all the pointers. I'm still most taken by the Colorad 5 (and we've actually seen one up in a display and liked it). I think for us the main question is whether to get the extension or not...
It seems that people favour having a gazebo or a day tent rather than extensions to the main tent, but I guess at many sites they will charge you extra for 2 tents.
More head scratching !!!
