Just pitched my Vango Orchy 500 for the first time. Went up beautifully, although it is quite tight getting the porch pole in! I think it probably took about 3/4 hour and I put the wrong pole in the bedroom (swapped with the porch) so figure it will take about 30 minutes (if my twin sons don't help)

However I eventually got the canopy on (with a little help from my hubby) but neither of us were sure that it was right as it seemed to guy across the side door (which may be right!?) Dopes it sit just on the brow pole with large gaps at the side. or do the loops go round the front dome ring and pins? Is there an easy way ot fit it?

On the whole though very pleased, pitched it myself (apart from trying to work out the canopy)..but needed help to stuff it in the bag....but then that can aways wait until I get home.

Mamee

PS Getting excited now as only 6 weeks to go on Friday until we are off to Pentewan Sands...yippee!...Now just got to take the orchy out first!

I got those poles wrong the first time too! lol!... had to swap them round with the tent up.

I have got canopy as well but had same problem as you.. was not sure exactly where it was meant to 'go- (I have the standard one) must admit still haven't worked it out and left it off when we went away bank holiday weekend- luckily had good weather. Went to tent display last week and saw a standard canopy on another tent and there did seem to be large gaps at the sides. Angelas has a picture on her profile showing her orchy with a large canopy- might be worth a look.

I think the description on the instructions (stitchedinside the bag) are misleading... I'm sure the say something like the straight pole is used for the bedroom support & the arched pole or the porch... when in reality it's the reverse!!!

As for the canopy... I prefer the side mounting option, but need longer guys to reach all the way over the tent & it could possibly damage the roof of he tent by the guys rubbing on the roof & it dos not keep the side door dry in the rain... (gap from roof to canopy)...

But... it still lets you use the front door with the porch option (door open with king poles) and makes the tent better balanced if on a tight pitch...

Might be wrong but I understood side mounting was only on the Vango tunnel tents ? I thought on the Orchy's the extensions were only for front door mounting.

Hi Mamee,

No your right the guys do cross the side door which is a pain. We altered ours by cutting the guys down and adding a pair of snap clips or you could use C clips and attach them to the 2 front sections of the dome poles where they come through the flysheet on each side. As for the gap then thats about right, we have tried various ways with ours both on the Orchy and also our old Diablo and both had a gap between the tent and canopy.
