Hello everyone. We are a family of 5 (3 small children). Our camping trips are no more than 2-3 days max. In the past its just been me and 2 kids , this year it will be the 5 of us so am going to invest in a new tent. I have just seen the Vango Venture 500 for £59.99 but am not sure the living space will be big enough. I also saw the Gelert Cadiz 7 for £109.99 the 3rd bedroom can be used for storage or living area. I did like both tents but haven't seen any reviews for the Gelert? Could anyone help me with this?

Thanks Jon

I had a Gelert Cadiz 5+2...I got rid of it (part ex when I bought a friend's TT) because the living space was miniscule. You would be really cramped if you all tried to sleep in the big pod and even then removing the third bedroom wouldn't exactly make it spacious.

The usual rule of thumb for berth size is the no of people +2 for a weekend tent, No of people +4 for a week or more. Now you'd think ther Cadiz would do this? Err, no.We (family of four) swapped it for a Vango Oregon 600 and doubled the living space. Later we bought the 800 version so that the kids could have seperate pods. I don't feel the living space in this common design of 8-man tunnel would be too much for a family with three kids, tbh.

Current good buys in this sort of design? Lichfield Commanche  or the Vango Oregon 800  2007 version, (both from  Duncan's of Wishart, a very reliable company I have used before and a steal at that price) .

We had more or less decided to get the Gelert Cadiz 7 (also 5 of us),  as it seemed to be just what we wanted until we saw one in the flesh, we were really dissapointed with the living space and the lack of headroom.

I have a Cadiz 5, which I used for a short break for just me and the two kids and it was ideal.   I would happily use it for longer if I didn't want to tow.
However, I would not like to use it if hubby is with us, as he requires his own space, whereas the kids and I will squash in together.
You have to look at the living space, as yes we hope to be sitting outside enjoying the air, but realistically have to consider bad weather as well.    Last thing you want is to be falling over each other if you are stuck inside.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I don't think I will bother with the Cadiz and definitely not the Vango Venture 500 . I will look for something bigger.

Thanks

Jon
