Hey everyone, I'm new to these boards and today my first ever tent was delivered! After doing a lot of research and repeatedly watching pitching videos on the internet, I decided on the Vango Orchy 600.
I'm a bit worried though... I know from watching the pitching video on the website that the poles are supposed to be colour coded (2 black large poles for the dome, 1 grey for the bedroom, etc). But all my poles are black?
I'm somewhat irrationally worried that they aren't actually the right poles. I haven't had time to actually pitch the tent yet. Has this happened to anyone else?
Also my 'included pitching DVD' had no case or sleeve, it was all scratched and dusty and just shoved in the bag. Is this normally how the Vango tents/DVDs come? I took the tent out of the bag and without even unfolding it I could see that it was also a bit dusty in places. I'm worried it isn't actually a new/unused tent. I got it from http://www.worldoftents.co.uk/, does anyone have any experience with them?
Don't forget to leave a review of all tents you've used, for a chance to win fantastic prizes
Sometimes it's just the end two sections that are the different colour. I know one of my Vangos is like that. Have you extended them out to check they are different lengths?
Also the pitching videos sometimes use prototype tents so they can be made early in the season, and then small details change.
Tents usually come machine packed ie very precisely in vacumn assisted folds, which no human will ever hope to replicate. I can't recall if Vango seal the plastic packing bag though. They can feel a bit powdery sometimes...I suspect this is some sort of chalk or talc use to endure the folds don't stick under this pressure. If the tent was obviously folded once and tight into the bag, then don't worry. Human tent folding looks very different, as you'll discover!
If I remember rightly, my Orchy 500 poles are all black, apart from 1 which has a grey pole in the middle.
The two long black ones are for the dome, there is a shorter but same thickness black one for the back bedroom, and there is a even shorter thinner black pole for the front door cowl.
