We had some small leaks in our vermont over the bh weekend. We brought ours last year, but we thought that given the amount of rain over that weekend we should expect a few leaks, but having read here that people didn't have any leaks at all i'm confused.
Should i get in touch with outwell and let them know the problems we recently had ? We brought it last february so the warranty is out of date but having said that we have only used 4 times .

We are having the same problem sheryl. A guarantee is additional to your consumer rights so if your tent was not fit for purpose when you bought it then you still have rights. Your contract is with the retailer though not Outwell so you would need to speak to them. I love the layout of the Vermont and other than the leaking it is our perfect tent (for now!!) but my advice to anyone buying one is if it leaks takes it back straight away and don't be fobbed off like i was with trying the seam sealer and seeing how things went.

We bought an Outwell Nebraska XXL in 2006 which was replaced THREE times, the last time it was replaced we chose a Vermont XL instead. Our first Nebraska was replaced because it had various faults, such as holes in fly screens etc, the second one leaked like a sieve and the third was discovered to have an 8 inch hole in it where the tent wasn`t sewn to the SIG. All of our tents were replaced immediately when we returned them with no quibble at all.

The third one was just out of its warranty when we returned it, but it was taken back as faulty with no quibble. We were asked at the time if we wanted another Nebraska, a full refund or if we wanted, we could have another tent in replacement. We said we would rather wait until this years models were out, which we were told was fine and early this year we asked for the Vermont XL and duly received our 2008 model. Not only did we get the new tent, but Yeomans at Ambleside who are the company I am talking about, exchanged the footprint and carpet we had for the Nebraska, for a new carpet and footprint for the Vermont. The excellent service we have received from them has ensured that they will retain our custom and we wouldn`t think of going elsewhere for a tent.

The Vermont XL was taken to York for a week over the Bank Holiday and withstood some good winds and torrential rain with no problem at all. We used Delta pegs and the tent never moved. No sign of a leak even though the rain was horrendous at times. We are really pleased with the tent, so another thumbs up here

hi merrycat

we tested our vermont m in the rain and gale force winds of the bank holiday weekend at Marazion, it stood up to all that was thrown at it, we had a hartford xl before that also stood up to everything that was thrown at it, i would tell anyone to go buy an outwell tent, they are a little more expensive then other makes but you get what you pay for.we think outwells are the best.

sianyw - i'm a bit concerned asking the retailer to get involved as we brought it via the internet from Allweathers last year. They have already replaced one for us where we had problems with the stitching and they were fine about it but we are now a year down the line and as they are so far from us it would have to be posted to them.

I have had bad experiences with Outwell Nylon Tents. I had 2 leaky Nebraskas and my friend had 3 including a Vermont XL (2007 model).

The trend I have found is the tent appears to be fine on the first couple of outings but then the seams start to give way and the water drips in. The seam sealant Outwell provide is useless - it just makes a horrible mess and still does not fix the leaks.

I have been reading this forum for some years (and contributing) and there is a definite trend on Outwell Nylon Tents leaking. I accept there are some good tents and bad ones, but faced with the overwhelming evidence on these forums I would suggest "Buyer Beware".
