Hi all - hoping that someone can give me advice on a new tent. After our latest trip this week OH finally persuaded that a tent upgrade is needed ... main wishes a bit more living space and a porch big enough to cook in!

I have decided that we will go for a canvas or polycotton but which one! ? It needs to be for me,OH and ten year old twins but as my brother usually comes on holiday with us it has to include him too. So we would ideally need 3 bedrooms. We currently have an 8 man tunnel tent.

Love the wolf lake and other lake series - how easy are they to put up... do they get very heavy when wet? Have also considered Vango Zanzibar ....

Anyone have anything to say on Sunncamp, Easy camp or Royal frame tents? I am watching some on ebay at the moment - as well as cabanons of course.

I love a SIG or ZIG ( our orchy has this but not our tunnel tent) as I am not a lover of all things creeping but frame tents don't usually have them... does anyone know of one that has?

All advice gratefully accepted... cheers x

If you want views on canvas tents, i would do a search on Cabanon on this site, you will find plenty of opinions on canvas tents.

I own 2 canvas plus 1 polycotton Cabanons, we also have a modern Khyam for weekends as even the smallest canvas frame tents take up a lot of space.

I bought all my 3 Cabanons off ebay for a fraction of there original cost, The new Biscayes by cabanon have sigs and one model is polycotton, but you dont see many second hand.

Always collect and inspect an ebay tent and pay cash, although i have never found the description to be inaccurate others have.

Also most Cabanons with Georgian windows are a few years old even if the seller states only used once as on a current listing. I suspect he has used once since purchasing it 2nd hand.

Cheers for all your help ... OH still pontificating whether I (!) should buy second hand or new so we are not quite ready to commit yet. We have now seen marechal tents on line - never heard of these before anyone with any thoughts?

I have a Norfolk lake and love it.  In all the bad weather last week it was great to have such good living space and it stood rock solid.

I wanted a canvas but the husband didnt. But being female I can be quite persuasive so he gave in and we got a gorgeous pyramid yesterday.Used once and a totally amazing price. The bag is huge and alot heavier than the Gelert but I am already totally in love with the canvas (even thought we cant pitch the damn thing as there are no instructions and we are newbies lol)

Get a second hand one in good condition and try it...  its a totally different feeling :)
