Hi everyone,

recently bought this tent and was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to put it up easily? Hubby and I put it up yesterday and found that it was hard going! Our last tent was an Outwell Winfield which we had down to a fine art - I guess we just need to practice and we'll get there!

Just wondered if anyone else had one and can share there expertise!

Thanks,

Marie

Hi Marie,

We have the mayon 6 and I think they are almost the same so this is how we do ours....

Lay the tent out with the front where you want it once pitched and insert the flexible poles through the slots in the top.

Put the steel poles on each side of the back flexipole and ring and pin.

Raise the back and peg the guylines just to hold it up while you move onto the other poles.

Work towards the front pinning and pegging as you go.

Make sure that the poles are in straight lines then peg the tent down

Peg the guylines and it is up.

We struggled the first time and think we also tried to be a bit too scientific about the poles being in straight lines etc but on our second try it was much easier.

Practice a few times and  you will find it doesnt take very long.

Can I suggest that you practice getting it back in the bag too? lol

There was much cursing when it came to folding but now we can get it back in easily AND fit a canvas tarp in the bag along with poles... so worth persevering.

Now we just bought a second hand pyramid with no instructions .. any idea how to pitch that? lol

Good luck and be patient :)

Karin.

How we pitch ours

Lay the tent out and unzip the front door and then feed all the poles through the tent.Starting at the front we bend the poles towards the back of the tent.My other half rings and pins the pole at her side and then steps onto the grass in the unzipped doorway.I bend the pole while my other half feeds the material along the pole until she is at my side and then i ring and pin my end.Do the same with all the poles and when done we gather up all the poles stand up and walk the tent into position.

Peg out the back pole and then walk each pole out towards the front until it is sort of up , peg the front pole guy line and then go around the tent moving poles until the tent is tightish then peg out fully.Dont forget to zip the door back up before guying out the front of the tent or you wont be able to zip the door closed.

It gets easier the more times you pitch it

Hey no worries about the pyramid Marie, I was just  joking :)

I will get it up if it is the last thing I do..

Determination .. plenty

Skill... not so much but learning :)

Have you got somewhere you can practice with the Gelert? We have no garden but the grass outside is perfect.

Good luck girl :)
