I've had a run of bad luck weather-wise with my Khyam XL (1998/1999) resulting in a broken top pole and then a broken bottom joint.

Managed to source the pole from Camperlands.  They were very good.  I sent off the broken one and they rang me to say that they had the right sized pole but that the peg that you push in to join the pole and joint was in the wrong place so wouldn't be perfect.  As I was planning to go away again very soon I said that that was fine - and it was.

Then on my next trip, a joint on another corner broke on the first morning in the wind.  I splinted it and it lasted the week.

I've contacted camperlands and they say that they can supply me with a replacement but that once again the pin will be in the wroing place.  I've tried to contact Khyam to see if this always going to be the case or whether there is anywhere / anything else I could try but they have completely ignored all emails and won't anser the phone.

Next port of call, Penrose leisure.  Spoke to a nice chap there.  He confirmed that I am unlikely to find a full match for the spare.  He suggested using a joint from a tourer as their poles are the same width but I've checked and the hole for the pin wil be in the wrong place again.  It's not a disaster but it is annoying when you can't get spares for a high-end tent.  Will certainly not be buying another Khyam!

I'm thinking that I'll just have to tape the pole into the joint.

Does anyone else have any other ideas?

ps - apologies if there is already a post on this but the search function doesn't seem to be working - I just get a blank screen.

I had two broken poles on my brand new Khyam tent last year, during good weather.I emailed Khyam and asked was there a problem with the poles, suppose I was lucky I actually got a reply. They said there was no problem,I can`t remember the exact wording but I got the feeling they meant ,Hard luck.
I hope you both get a better Response than I did.

Just can't get through to them at all - might be perfectly valid reason for this, but you would think they'd put an "out of office" on their email, or a message on their website...just nothing !

Oh dear. I've just this minute emailed them asking for a copy of instructions for our Khyam Arizona tent. Guess I won't be getting a reply then!

A few years ago  a broke a foot on my McKinley (totally my fault) I emailed them from the website and a few days later received a spares pack which contained a few of the feet as well as some pole sections etc.

I hope this isn't a sign that their customer services has changed. Fingers crossed that it's just an email problem.

Try writing to them and make sure you mention the lack of response to the emails.

we rang them from Newquay last summer while on holiday for 2 weeks as the joint broke. We paid £6 for 2 joints to be sent on next day delivery to campsite and they where there when we came back from the beach!!  We must have been lucky or their service as gone to pot. Hope you have better luck at sorting your tent out.

i remember reading that last year.. or if it wasn't you it was a similar story.

i am getting my stuff ready for our first camp this year on July 18th, so just under a month to go.

i was actually searching for a query i had last year about our bent bedroom pole (remember those winds last summer!) and i was optimistic i had plenty of time to sort it out before i go.

i know i should have done it last year when we came back.

our xl classic is a green one from 2006.
