I've had a run of bad luck weather-wise with my Khyam XL (1998/1999) resulting in a broken top pole and then a broken bottom joint.
Managed to source the pole from Camperlands. They were very good. I sent off the broken one and they rang me to say that they had the right sized pole but that the peg that you push in to join the pole and joint was in the wrong place so wouldn't be perfect. As I was planning to go away again very soon I said that that was fine - and it was.
Then on my next trip, a joint on another corner broke on the first morning in the wind. I splinted it and it lasted the week.
I've contacted camperlands and they say that they can supply me with a replacement but that once again the pin will be in the wroing place. I've tried to contact Khyam to see if this always going to be the case or whether there is anywhere / anything else I could try but they have completely ignored all emails and won't anser the phone.
Next port of call, Penrose leisure. Spoke to a nice chap there. He confirmed that I am unlikely to find a full match for the spare. He suggested using a joint from a tourer as their poles are the same width but I've checked and the hole for the pin wil be in the wrong place again. It's not a disaster but it is annoying when you can't get spares for a high-end tent. Will certainly not be buying another Khyam!
I'm thinking that I'll just have to tape the pole into the joint.
Does anyone else have any other ideas?
ps - apologies if there is already a post on this but the search function doesn't seem to be working - I just get a blank screen.
