i'm coming to a final decision on which tent to get but size is an issue

there are 4 of us(inc 2 boys 4+2)

our tent will be mostly used for weekends but may be used for a full week next summer

how much space do we need to be comfortable

i'm considering 8 or 6 berth tents

do i go for the bigger or will 6 berth be enough(eg/ Vango Orchy 600/Outwell Nevada L)

Hi

We went for an 8 birth coleman mackenzie and only use 2 of the bedrooms so have a massive living area. Decided on this in case of bad weather we can stay in and not feel too cooped up. I think once you have all your stuff in the tent they soon fill up anyway, but I guess it is personal choice.

Also got to consider the size in relation to pitch sizes - some really big ones might need two pitches, although tunnel tents not so bad as more efficient use of pitch space.

Apparently the most popular tent sold last year was the montana 6 so lots of people find that big enough.

Personally I'd go for the outwell. Fantastic tents with loads of living space. Just what you need with the British weather.

Have fun whatever you decide

Hi there,

There are a five of us and we have just invested in another tent(we already have 2: Montana 8 - was too big, Diablo 600 not big enough) and that was the Monty 6. It has by far the most 'usable' space in it its class due to the fact the headroom doesn't drop down (same height all the way through) crucial when getting kids up and down, to sleep, dressed etc (we have three 5, 3 and 18 months). We have two in one and unzip the dividing wall and have us in the other and the youngest in the middle.

We are taking the vango in July to Cornwall - it has a lot to live up to, Got a feeling it will be on ebay if we feel that the monty 6 is all we need (that was until i started reading up on frame tents -aaarhg!).

We also got the front canopy which is great, adds an extra bit of space (lovely for the warmer evening with a cool cider - that happened twice!).

Have fun shopping

Naomi (whose diablo is set up in the garden, and is dry - which was a huge surprise!!!)

We have an outwell hartford XL 2008 and it's great.  It is 7.7m x 7.5m, has 3 bedrooms but we use one for storage and it has a large living area.  We love it and would definitly recommend it.

I must say there are hundreds of tents out there, so choose wisely but make sure you like it as everyone is different and you have to sleep in it.

Happy Camping!!!

We haev a 5 berth for the two of us...the Outwell has loads of space in the living area and is the main reason we bought it. Wet days having to eat inside you need lots of floor space.

Also think about how much usable space is lost by sides of the tent that slope.

Have a read of the tent reviews on here.

Good Luck..!

Why can't we live in the tent..?
