Hi everyone, I'm new to this site and am hoping some of you out there can help me find somewhere that sells large frame tents.

We used to have an old frame tent but changed to a dome tent when we needed more bedroom space (now a family of 2 adult and 5 kids) and desperatly want to get back to the comfort of a frame tent.   I'm having trouble finding places that sell canvas frame tents at all never mind any that are 8 birth or bigger which is what we would need. The only two i've managed to find that are big enough so far are the  Easy Camp Mykonos 8 birth (we really like the look of this one) and the Cabanon Espace 8 (which we dont like so much and is alot of money). does anybody know of anywhere that specializes in family frame tents or any tent shows/displays that have larger model frame tents erected?

Hi jac, welcome to the site

i don't know of ant tent displays in your area , but have you looked on ebay?

The canvas tents seem to go for very low prices, as most people haven't got the room to store and transport them. As you probably already know, a canvas tent will last for decades if looked after, so maybe a second hand one would be a great bargain.

hi, thanks for the quick reply.

Yes Ive been looking on ebay - still really difficult to find something big enough though and then waying up the difference of buying second hand and the cost collecting it against the cost of buying new.  do you know of any big tent shows anywhere in uk that have frame tent on display - could combine it into a holiday?

How about something like this as a compromise? Has big sleeping capacity, steel poles, sewn in groundsheet?, its not canvas though.

why not just buy a common 6 birth canvas frame tent and then buy a inner bedroom for an awning or frame tent giving you the extra 2 sleep spaces?

this can be unhooked in about 2 mins and stored in one of the other pods in the day

would only take 5 mins max a day to put up and take down again

after all its only for sleeping in

our 6 birth canvas frame has such a large living area we wouldnt miss the space taken up by another pod if we couldnt be bothered to remove it when we wake up

Or get a bedroom annexe for a 6 berth Cabanon adn turn it into an 8 berth.

They still go for resonable price here

How about a TT? Much easier to transport than a big tent, and a good few of them are 6-8 berth. Tons of storage space as well.

Alternately I don't think you'll find many frame tents over an 8-berth, So have you considered a pup tent for a couple of the kids, to give extra sleeping space?

But I agree with the above posters...you don't want to buy a new megabucks frame tent when you can get somethinmg just as good for peanuts on Ebay.

Attwools have some on display, but not a huge amount. They also have trailer-tents. They are based on the A38 south of Gloucester. Highbridge caravans also have displays of tents, not sure if some are frame but they also have TTs and carry a larg amount of stock, so should think they should have frame, worth ringing to check or look on their website. They are based in Somerset near Highbridge south of Weston-super-Mare

Thank you all for being so helpful. An extra bedroom in a 6 berth is definantly something we will consider and the bedroom annex is a great idea. I can't really put the kids in a pup tent as they are all still quite young - they wouldnt like it alone in the dark!!! And hubby doesnt like the idead of pulling a trailor tent all round the country - we do alot of camping trips to scotland! I'm still watching some on ebay at the moment so I hope they dont go too expensive.

Attwools have a Cabanon Aruba on display to give you an idea of Cabanon quality. It's a lovely tent, we go and stand inside it and drool quite often

I haven't been to Highbridge since they had their outdoor display up so I'm not sure what they have pitched.

There is also Taunton Leisure who have a display at Sanders Garden Centre at Highbridge - again I haven't been this year so I'm not sure what is pitched - I think Merry might have been?

Having towed a folding camper, I think a trailer would be a better bet than loading the car with a huge frame tent / kit and a family of seven.

If I had the storage space at home I would go back down the T.T. road today never mind tomorrow, But that's just my thoughts.

Presumably though you're going to have to buy a trailer to carry the frame tent anyway, if there are 7 of you in the car? It's too heavy for a roof box.
