Hi

I'm new to this site and new to camping (if you ingore my stints in a 3-man A frame with Girl Guides).

I've just bought a McKenzie X8 as I thought it looked good value and seemed more managable than some of the dome tents on offer.  I was really pleased with my bargain until I had to lift it into the car (it weighs a ton!).

I'm now worried that I won't be able to manage to erect the tent, as there's only me and my two children (a daughter aged 12 and a son aged 9).

I know it seems a very large tent for the three of us, but, to be honest, I love my space and the kids won't share a room as they're at that funny age.

Does anyone own one of these?  Are they easy to put up?  Will I need to enlist the help of another adult to help me? Do they fit on most campsites or do you need to pay for a larger pitch?

I've looked on a few 'review' sites, but so far I've only seen one review for this tent so any advice/info would be really welcome.

We are going to get a weathermaster at the weekend which is similar (unless something else grabs my attention while in the store lol)

I have not pitched one yet but apparently, the weathermaster and mackenzie are not too bad to pitch.

I am sure your 12 year old will be alot of help and dont forget that other campers are always helpfull so do not be afraid to ask if you are struggling or stuck.

Help rewarded with a cup of tea or a cold beer has been the start of many friendships :)

Angie.

I purchased the mackenzie 8 a few weeks ago and yes it is very heavy, easy to pitch though- took me and my 13 year old son about 30 mins. I got someone to help me lug the tent into the car at home then unpacked it from the car, I packed it up this way also. Great tent- hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for the helpful information, I feel a lot more relaxed about being able to put the tent up with just the kids to help now.
