Well, my boyfriend came up with the idea and we attached them through the little slits in the pole holder and then around the steel pole. It works well, getting rid of quite a lot of the stress. We just used plain (green) garden ones I suppose- I found them in my parents garage. We left them on when we put the tent away too.
By attaching the pole holder to the steel pole it pulls the steel pole to the right. This does put a little stress on the fabric at the top. Therefore we tended not to tie the cable ties to tightly- sort of as a medium between supporting the door and not putting to much pressure at the top.
We decided this was why we shouldn't cut the material attaching the pole to the tent, otherwise it would put some stress by pulling it forward- which puts stress on the fabric at the top (looking head on at the front door).
I think we decided on holiday that this was a design fault. as I've said- if you tie the cable ties to tight it puts pressure at the top. It's annoying as we love the space inside!
We also had trouble getting the fabric on the roof taught, however we tried it the back was always a bit 'flappy in the wind'? Any advice :)
P.S. sorry if that was poorly explained- without showing photos its difficult!
