I am looking for a biggish tent for me and my 3 kids for a few weekends and possibly a week in the hols this year and beyond. I am drawn to the Vango as it seems to tick most boxes but as i am fairly new to camping i don't want to run before i can walk.
So if anyone can advise in any way it would be greatly appreciated.
Also this tent is on gooutdoors.co.uk for £149 and everywhere else it is marked up at £250-£300 a bargain?

Not easy to put up alone, really needs someone inside to support main poles when erecting. Takes us about 45 mins to put up complete. Price is v.good. We have 2006 model without extra poles in bedroom and don't find any problem with this.

I bought a Diablo 600XP from go Outdoors Oxford back in april time.
I bought it cos it ticked the boxes and I knew it would be a well made tent. I have the 2007 version and it cost me £200 which i thought was a bargin.
Just seen the website and the £150 tent is the 2008 version, when the 2007 still is £199 (that would make we wonder why the difference)
Anyway, I was able to thread the poles (but be careful not to tear the pocket) on my own but did need an extra body to step inside as it is a heavy tent to put up. that person was needed for a minute maximum as I got the three ends in place.
anyway. Yes the tent is great but I would ask myself why the newer 2008 tent is cheaper than the 2007?
I think the tent for sale at go outdoors is the pre 2007 model - look at the bedroom "pods" - there should be an extra pole to give greater headroom in the bedrooms? And that’s the Diablo 600, not 600XP model. I have the Diablo 600xp 2008 model and it doesn’t look like the one from go outdoors hence the price.

There are loads of threads about the Diablo, it is a big tent and as a spread dome takes a large pitch size so do check that the sites you plan on visiting will take you.
We found a similar model difficult to pitch, it's a two person job and is a really bu&&er in high winds. We also found that as each side of the dome had doors off it there was very little space to store things inside.
Also as a big inner first construction you will need somewhere to dry it when you bring it home wet. Have you got garage space or something similar?
Personally I'd recommend something that is more tunnel shaped, they are more efficient with regard to pitch space, easier to pitch and give more usable space.
How old are your kids? With the Diablo you'd be across the tent from them - presumably 2 in a pod and 1 with you? - 210cm isn't really big enough for 3 despite what the pictures show (esp. with the slope of the dome) unless they are littlies and then wouldn't you want them closer to you? With a tunnel you can usually create one big bedroom at the back so you can all be in together or two rooms next to each other so you can keep an eye on them at night.
Have you seen any tents in the flesh? It's really worth finding a decent display and poking around the tents, think about where and how you'd sleep, where you'd store stuff etc.
Yes the model at Go outdoors is a great price but it is a Vango make up for them. It is based on the pre XP models and as such has not got the all important second bedroom pole which makes the XP model so much better.
Thanks for the responses everyone, it's a big help to listen to people with a bit more savvy! My children are 11, 8 and 5 so i have reasons for keeping them close, but also trying to give a bit of freedom to the older 2.
We have a Vango Colorado 600DLX, we have 2 children and it is plenty big enough. It takes me and my hubby 45 minutes to put up.
Before we purchased our tent we went to loads of tent shows so we could walk in the tents and see how big and how they put up etc. We are so glad we did as we were settled on the Diablo but didn't realise how big it actually was, great tent but too big for just me and my hubby to put up on our own in a decent amount of time before the children got bored.
If you have a chance to go to any tent shows it is well worth it and will help you make up your mind.
Good Luck
