I was persuaded to go away to a Rally with some friends, and they loaned a tent to me and my partner.

However we are older than we once were and dont want to go crawling all the time again.

We also had a fair bit of wind, so much so that one of the dome tents broke its poles, ours was ok.

So I am researching on the sought of tent for occasional use but will stand up to march winds etc, also as occasional use is intended, arms and legs would be better of still attached to myself

So I expect a 4 Man tent, but now what make and type would be recommended?

answers on a postcard etc

Hi Lazy Old Rider and welcome to UKCS

I recently asked the same question and ended up with a Sunncamp Evolution 400. For about £100 you get a tent that you can stand up in with SIG. Only 3 poles and I managed to put it up solo. A living area and not too many guys to peg out. Have a look at the tent review sections to see the reviews on it. I havent actually tried mine out yet on a camping trip but cant wait. It is called a semi - geodesic tent due to its shape and is supposed to be more stable in windy weather but I am not sure if it would manage a March in the uk

Here is a link to one

all the best

Well, if you really want the best tent to tick your boxes...though you don't mention budget...you could do worse than the older Frame tents with canvas outer, or if you have the budget, a brand new one!  As long as you can drive to your camping spot as they are a lot heavier than modern synthetic tents.

On the plus side...they are incredibly simple and easy to put up and take down..they do not suffer from condensation, have great headroom, quieter in the wind, are waterproof, cooler in the sun and warmer on a chilly night. It's also true that you will have to repitch the tent back at home if you pack it away wet, as Canvas will shrink and/or get mildew if you don't dry it thoroughly. They may be old fashioned, but if you look carefully at some of the members on here under their names you will see the word 'Cabanon' appear often as this is one of the best makes around and they are available on ebay second hand all the time circa £100- £130.  I bought one for my brother, his wife and kids last year for Christmas and though this particular Cabanon sports late 1980's curtain design they love it to bits.

There are modern versions available now which are a mixed weave of cotton and polyester.(poly/cotton)..OUTWELL are a popular brand offering this new material and people who have them are all making positive noises. Not cheap though!

The tent bag and poles will be heavier also, so as long as you can lift them in and out of the car...this is what I would recommend. Additionally, if you decide sometime in the future that camping is no longer for you...you can sell it again and get most of your money back. Not something you could do with a synthetic tent.

I'm sure there will be other suggestions for synthetic tents also, but I'd recommend the Frame tent.

I know next to nothing about tents, but we have just been to a tent show looking also for tents you can stand up in. We liked the Vango 500 or Outwell Oregon 5 (both of which have come recommended) and had plenty of standing/walking room, though I suppose may be a bit bigger than you need, depending how much space you want. There was a very similar slightly smaller oregon but not so much room with head height. We want a bit more room than we actually need if you know what I mean! Not sure how either of these stand up to the wind as they are 2 season tents

Here's an example live on ebay at the moment...you could do a lot worse than something like this...

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-5232-2978-1/1?AID=9479574&PID=1428744&mpre=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Classic-French-Marechal-Family-Tent_W0QQitemZ130234476085QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item130234476085&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318

ps...MARECHAL Brand is also excellent.

We bought an outdoor revolution scenic 5.0i last year..  Everyone comments how high it is inside.  I can still put it up no problem with my 12 year old daughter. The bedroom area is just as tall so great for dressing and undressing.   Kids use the bedroom as their chill out room during day.  It sleeps 4.  It stayed up well in May half term up in Dent during the wild windy week!

they are now selling for around £150.  Steel poles so nice and solid. We are very pleased with it.
