Excellent   Thank you

I spoke to someone at a different Yeomans today and she said that she didn't know much about tents, but said they had to flex and move so the poles didn't snap.

I got the reply from Vango about the Lifetime Guarantee, which basically said it only covered manufacturing defaults.  If the tent moved so much that the poles split then that didn't matter, it would be nothing to do with them.

Yeomans on the other hand, called today to tell me my tent has arrived instore, and the guy who reccomended it and helped us out says that if it's nice he will put it up on the grass to show me how it's done and to make sure it's ok.  Now if that isn't service I don't know what is!

I don't have any deltas, but there are plenty of caravan places nearby I can get them from if it turns out we need them.

The quality control thing could be true, as there are 4 reviews on this site that mention nothing about the tent re: poles/movement in wind.

Just seen you're from Derbyshire, whereabouts?

Hi

I am just back from a very gusty weekend in my Orchy 500. I had pitched in pouring rain so probably was not the best pitch that I had ever done!! (For one I had forgotten to tighten the tensioning straps other than at the pins - blame water on the brain - at least 1/2 inch fell while I was pitching).

Compared to a Diablo 600 (our big tent) the Orchy does move considerably. Whilst I pitched back to wind, the wind turned on a number of occasions with gusts coming from different directions during the stay. The back was fine, wind to side did cause considerable movement but this was exacerbated by having the canopy over the front of the tent adding extra movement. When from the front had to use side door to prevent ballooning.

I think that it probably could do with slightly thicker poles, but mine suffered no damage even with gale force gusts due to the flexibility in the poles. I was also guyed down with deltas on the guys. It also performed well in extremely heavy rain.

Make sure that you guy well with good pegs and have adequate tension. In gusty weather I would say that this is the main thing to ensure that you do not snap. Also ensure that your pins are firmly down, double pegging them and that the straps are tightened well.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone :)

Got my new tent this morning, and Yeomans basically said their 1 yr guarantee covers EVERYTHING on the tent.  So any problems with the wind and the poles snapping they will help :D

1 week to go!  I shall be putting the tent up on OH's garden tonight to practice!

I've missed the replies on this thread.

Well, after consistantly contacting Vango, they have picked up the tent for more testing. I have to say, we had no problems with the dome section and to be honest, I don't think it would matter if you had delta's or not as the poles are flexing in.

We bought ours from Outdoor Action and they have ignored my plea for proper testing. I feel as though we just got a bad batch of poles which Vango replaced. However, the tent wasn't properly tested but just erected and they saw no damage.

I was really shocked when seeing the 600 on display not even guyed out and it didn't flex or move at all. So hopefully they will get it sorted for us as we really like the tent.

As for a tunnel tent, we've had a few Outwell ones and they have always held strong. We currently have the Bear Lake 6 and feel very safe in it, it doesn't budge!

Best wishes with your tent, kup on how it goes.

thanks :) well like i said, we're putting it up tonight, there is a strong breeze, so that could be interesting.

the 500 was on display at yeomans at that wasn't properly guyed out, but i think it is a bit sheltered....but it wasnt't moving at all and it was chucking it down.

Will let you know all details when I'm back from my jollies on the 8th August

Thanks for all your help, Mamabear and everyone :)

Cheers Drew.

Well put up my tent on thursday and it took us about an hour rather than the 20 mins stated

I looks like it best to put it up then go and tighten everything up and guy it up.  Best thing is the DVD that you get with it, lets you select every tent to see how it pitches.....except the Orchy!!  It just won't load!  Have seen it on the website though.

OH's dad has cut us some really thick pond liner kind of stuff to put underneath with the groundsheet being sewn in.  Help stop it getting so mucky.

T minus 3 days!!

just make sure that the footprint sheet that you put down is tucked well under the flysheet so that if it rains you dont get water between the footprint and the sewn in groundsheet

yes, thanks, my mum has told me this to make sure I listen, and we have cut it slightly smaller than the tent.

Really can't wait to go now!  Can only hope it will be like it has today!
