Hello

Can anyone advise me please?  I want to take my 4yr old son camping as I think he will love it.  I want to buy a suitable tent, however I don't know what to buy!!

I have a hubby who is 6ft 4" who currently refuses to come with us as he thinks he won't fit in the tent and will be very uncomfortable sleeping.  Is there a tent out there suitable for a tall person and could he stand up in it? Can sleeping under canvas be comfortable as I think he is also worried about his slightly dodgy back being agrevated by sleeping on the ground.

Can anyone advise me please on a tent to suit a family of 4 with one particiular tall person. Plus sleeping equipement to aid a comfortable nights sleep?? We are on a budget though!

Thanks
Kim

We have the montana 6. My OH is 6ft 2 and he can stand up comfortably. You can use the  Tent Reviews facility at the top of the page to check out tents. If you look at the tents online they give the specifications. The best way to choose though is to go to a tent display. Then you can see which one will best suit your needs.

I can thoroughly recomment the Montana 6 by the way.

Thanks for the info about the Montana, I think I will go and look at one on display somewhere near us.

I'm 6'5" and can stand up happily in the middle of our Wild Country Homestead 5. Not the cheapest tent around but pretty robust. We've had it out in wild weather and it's taken everything that's been thrown at it and comes out smiling.

I have a friend who's 6ft 5 and has a Gelert Lokon Vario 5 and he has loads of head room, and doesn't have a problem with the length of the bedroom's either, which I can imagine might be a problem with some tents.  I'm 5ft11 and this tent is so high it's not like being in a tent.

On the subject of suitable beds I have one of these and it's really comfie, but your OH might find his feet stick off the end a bit whcih can be a nuisance.

Hope you find something that suits.

Liz

I bought my Khyam ("XL Excelsior" - now with a SIG and called "Petworth") partly because I'm 6 foot 2 - it's positively cathedral-like, but to call it a "4 man" tent is stretching things somewhat....

The Outdoor Revolution tents we have (Scenic 6.2 and Starcamper 5) both have 2.3M headroom in the living area, and long bedrooms compared to the kyhams and outwells we've looked at.

If you can get a vis a vis though with lots of headroom in the middle and a 4-person berth at one end then hubby can sleep lengthways in it iyswim.

Hi

I am 6ft 2 in bare feet no cheating with shoes on and like othes have said yes there are  tents now that cater for tall people. Have you considered otherhalf trying having a kip in your garden?  after all the ground is the ground so try a airbed outside somewhere for a few hours sleep. He will soon know how his back copes.

Hope your family have a very goodtime!

best thing to do is have a look at your local camping store, our nearest/best is go outdoors( formerly CCC) in sheffield and they will even put up tents if they don't have them already errected. the web site: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/

we just bought the outwell hartford xl (£269)and i'm 5'11" and cannot touch the roof in the middle. do be carefull tho as some sites have small pitches and we have found it tricky to get a pitch at some sites(this is our first time and wasnt aware of this problem) also the bedrooms on this tent are spacious and at the narrowest end 215 cm, if you look on the website abouve measurements are given on most tents so you can weedle out the unsuitable.

I'm 6ft 4 and our Sunncamp Olympic XL is more than adequate. Ok it's a big tent and thus isn't cheap but it's the mutts nuts, 3 large sleeping pods and a HUGE central living area.
