Hiya there,
am new to the site but very glad to find it!
Am, looking to buy a 4 or 5 man tent with 1 single bedroom of at least 220 / 200, pref 220 / 220+ with a small or two small porches but the main thing is I want one with excellent ventilation, my budget can't really go over £80. Don't really want it to weigh more than 8KG either Oh also ceiling height no less than 110, pref a bit higher and even better if the ceiling doesn't slope to the floor
have been looking at the Vanga sigma 400+
Gelert Quickpitch DS4 (no porches but big room)
Lichfield Apache 4
Outwell Jersey M (no porches but big room)
Any suggestions or anyone used any of these tents? Any help much appreciated thans :D

Hi Blossums. My son is not long back from ten days festival camping in Spain. So, before he went we were looking for a similar tent to you. He and his mates were flying out to Spain, then travelling on trains etc so weight was crucial as well as ventilation.
The Torino 500 was "too heavy". The Sigma+ looked excellent for a shared tent and for ventilation as it has the two porches, but the extra poles added to the weight and that style of porch is also not as useful for eg sitting under in the rain at some future time in this country.
So he took a Wynnster Shrike 5 http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p=1856&a=282492&g=19117&url=http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p=1856&a=282492&g=19117&url=http://www.gear-zone.co.uk/eshop/Wynnster-Shrike-5.html . His is black and grey coloured with mint pole sleeves. It met the requirements re price, height and size of inner. He shared it with another lad and they were both very pleased with it. The Shrike 5 was more comfortable than the the other festival domes their mates were camped in because it was a bit bigger and noticeably better ventilated. It has cowl vents front and back plus a vent cap on top: in Spain they mainly left the cap off to get max air through the mesh at the crown of the tent. It makes sense to me that a vent to get rid of hot air from inside the tent should be at the top, like a chimney, rather than on the sides. Also the Shrike has a double door on the inner, so you can zip and roll back the solid fabric door to get the air in but still keep the bug mesh door zipped across.
I think the Shrike 5 may be discontinued and so not very easy to get hold of. But the slightly smaller, lighter, cheaper Shrike 4 should be easy to buy.
In fact, my son has just got home (!) from an overnight party where they took tents. He just took his smaller Gelert Tornado 3. His comment as he was heading up the stairs was that he wished he'd taken the Shrike as the Tornado had got stuffy very quickly this morning. Like most UK tents I guess the Tornado is designed more to deal with rain than sun. MT
