Hi All,

Im new to family camping, looking at getting outwell tent and thinking about a bear lake 4 or 6? or maybe the new wolf lake 5.

We are a family of only 3 at the mo, but want to be able to grow into it! also take mum sometimes!!

Should i be looking at any other makes? also pros and cons for the outwell tents.

Have booked site for end August and no camping gear yet!

Many thanks

Mark.

We have an Outwell and are very happy with it. However, I would suggest you need to go to a  tent display and look at all the diiferent makes in order to see what would best suit your familys needs.

I would add 2+ berths to the size  of family if you see what I mean. A 4 man tent will sleep four comfortably. But you will then have all your kit etc and need somewhere to store everything.

You will find that the tent fills up fairly quickly. The extra space is always appreciated especially in wet weather when the kids want to play board games etc inside.

Hope you've got your credit card handy as the initial outlay can be very expensive.

There are three of us, myself, OH and soon to be four year old. We looked at the Bear Lake 4, 6 and Vermont L. Finally getting it down after much deliberation at a Yeomanns show to one of the Bear Lakes. Agree totally with pink sequin - you need to go to a show and see which tent feels right. In the end we decided on a polycotton - should pay for itself if it lasts twice as long as a vermont would have (we see it more as an investment to use over ten years), and went for the 6 berth as the extra room gives you space for luggage etc. Hope this helps a little... BTW Yeomanns were extremely helpful, giving us the pros and cons of each tent, and gave us no sale pressure at all. Credit carditus was felt tho.

We have an Outwell Vermont L - 2 adults 2 kids - loads of space - great tent - I would check the width of the tent as some sites do not allow anything wider than 5 metres.  The Vermont is very easy to put up - about 1/2 hour max.

Again get yourself to a tent show or outdoors shop that sell tents and have a look.

Good luck

Lou

does anybody know if there is much room to sit in an oregan 4? we are touring germany next year but dont want to put the montanna up for 1 night so we want something ust for 2 of us for 1 night stops......... we are swayed to the oregon 4 as it looks like we can sit in but the pics can be misleading, (not got a tent show near us at the mo)

A tent is like a newborn born baby..... to some they all look the same..... but if its yours it's beautiful.

You've got a fab tent there Mark, our friends have one and they think it's the best thing ever.  Our budget couldn't stretch to cotton so we've got the Vermont.  Happy camping in August and fingers crossed for the weather for you
