My family and I have decided we want to camp this summer and have decided to buy a tent and all. There are two adults and one child aged 6. I was gonna buy a 6 man 2 room tent which I saw online for £69+del. However I just got back from Tesco and spotted a 4 man dome tent for £12(on sale) and a kids 200g sleeping bag for £4.80
I haven't bought it yet but wanted some advice as to wither they where good deals or if I should just go ahead a buy the 6 man tent, for more space and comfort.
Also can anyone tell me the essentials needed for a week camping. We have no car so we need to pack light.
Thanks in advance

Personally I'd go for a well known brand of tent rather than a supermarket cheapy as they don't tend to be as well made and have a reputation for leaking but for £12 it may be a case of stick it up in the garden and see what it's like, put the hose pipe on it and check for leaks. At least with Tesco you will be able to take it back to the store if there's something wrong with it.
As to what else you need, with no car you'll be wanting to travel light so a kit with spare bits for the tent in is essential, spare pole section, tape to mend tears / wrap up poles, and a tube of sealant. Something to sleep on and in (good sleeping bag essential), something to cook on, perhaps a trangia and mess tins to eat out of with the cutlery sets that clip together. and light weight layers of clothes that are easy to wash and quick to dry (go to decathlon for T shirts and fleeces).
Thanks you Kate. I will buy that one and still order the other. If it don't work well, like you say I can take it back or let my son use it a garden hideout. Thank you for the other tips, I had forgot all about cooking.
What kind if things do people tend to cook? As I will have only one burner I can't think of much that goes into one pot. Apart from soup but how do I get and keep all the food fresh.
Is there a first timers guide to basic camping anywhere on the net?
Somewhere on this site think it might be somewhere on the features / tips section there's a load of camping recipies. Don't forget if you get a bbq (disposable ones are fine) you can do meat etc on that and have a pan of veggies / pasta / rice etc to accompany it on your gas burner.
If you find a site with a fridge / freezer that you can use you're laughing for keeping your food fresh, just remember to mark everything that's yours. A stream makes a good beer can / milk bottle cooler too.

Thats great thanks.
I went to Tesco and got the 4 man tent which was only £7.50 at the till. We pitched it and its great with no leaks. So We will keep[ it as spare or as a day tent.
Thank you also for the link.
