Just come back from bruces cave meet and took my parents.  They have the same tent as me (montana 12) bought from the same shop (gooutdoors) in the same yr (2007).  In fact we bought ours just 2 weeks after they bought theirs.

So why are our poles different??

Their poles are square where they link together but ours are D shaped.  Now i know they changed the poles after 2006 so which of us has the right poles??  Their poles were much better than ours and didn't twist and jam like ours did.

No idea about the poles but just wanted to say that though you may have bought your tent in 2007 there's no guarantee that you got a 2007 model, especially if it was on some sort of offer. You have to be very careful if buying online, for example, that you're comparing prices of tents of the same year. It can work to your advantage, of course, if you're after a tent of the previous year which has a discontinued and desirable feature.

But we didn't buy it on special offer, and we thought we were getting a 2007 tent (inc poles).  We went in the shop and bought it.  Actually we went in the shop and swapped it as the nebraska xl we had leaked (the 2nd one that leaked!!).

Think i might try and get in touch with them and see what they say.

Ok so i have rung them yesterday straight after posting and was that i would have to take both sets of poles to the shop (i live in carlisle - its in wakefield).  Told them no way unless they were gonna promise to supply me with new poles. She then transferred me to someone in the tent dept who told me they no longer sold the tent so they couldn't do anything about the fact that i have 2006 poles (we have established that i do indeed have a 2007 tent with 2006 poles).  Not good enough!!

So then he says he will call outwell and see if he can get new poles for me and ring me later yesterday afternoon to tell me what was happening.  No phone call.  So 1pm today i rang the number given on the gooutdoors website (after trying several times to ring directly to the wakefield branch) and was told i have to talk to wakefield and he would phone them and get someone to call me asap and let me know whats happening.

Still no phone call.

Am i getting impatient?  Maybe i am.  But i have been made to feel like i am just being picky about the poles - and maybe i am, but so what!!  Surley if i paid for a 2007 tent i should have recieved 2007 poles??

What do you think?  Am i just over reacting?

It wouldn't be the first time a tent manufacturer has changed 'specification' after the 'launch' of a product in mid season; perhaps to correct a problem or maybe just a change of supplier. They usually 'cover' themselves by a clause (usually in the small print!) mentioning something like "specifications may be subject to change without notice". If the poles aren't fit for purpose, then they should be changed, with no argument. But, if they do the job OK... Well, there isn't really a problem, other than a 'cosmetic' one, is there...

When "Khyam" bought out the 'annexe' for their 'Ridgidome' range and there was a perceived problem with 'flapping' and rain pooling on the roof. They cured the 'problem' with a support pole system, which was given (free) to all those who had bought the annexe...

But they dont fit the purpose if they keep getting stuck are they!  They're a bloody bugger to get apart when we take it down and apparantly thats the reason outwell changed them anyway.

So why should i (who bought my tent after my parents) have poles that stick when they have poles that dont??

Sounds like the poles have a fault and should be replaced then...

I'm sure I read a few posts, sometime last year, about the 'twisting' and 'jamming' of poles on some "Outwell" tents. Maybe someone can tell you whether it applies to the poles on your tent and whether "Outwell" replaced them...
