Looking at getting a Gelert Tornado 3 for short breaks but can't find a review on here, anyone got any idea what they're like.
Going to be used by a teenager going away with friends, they will be "Fairweather Campers". No car (apart from willing parents) so may need to be carried along with the rest of the gear. May also need to be erected single handedly.
Thanks.

The Gelert Tornado 3 would be excellent for the uses you describe. My son has one for festivals and stuff and its great. A good size for two sharing for a couple of nights - although four of them did all manage to squash in once for in one night only . MT

PS Having two doors on the front tunnel makes all the difference to the useability of the front sitting/storage space as 'stuff' can be pushed right to the front while still allowing a protected wet weather entrance/exit route from the main dome via the side door.
If the sun shines (we wish) , open up both doors and you can still grab a bit of shade under the roof of the tunnel. MT

Would the porch area be big enough to get a bike (or maybe two) in overnight? Apart from the luxury of some shade when sunny, more likely shelter when rainy, that's why we're looking at tents with a larger porch area.
I'm not sure about fitting a bike into the front tunnel area of the Tornado. The front door opens up wide enough I'm sure but my son has never needed to try this out. Could you work it out from the floor measurements?
Alternatively, the Jamet Delhi Dome specifically mentions bike storage, although I am not sure how you are supposed to get your bikes to stand up inside it! NB I always think the Jamet looks smart and a bit different but I have never seen one in real life. Another poster on here, Leoba, has one and has posted its praises before. MT

I doubt you'd get 2 bikes in the Gelert, and 1 could be tricky, and that's assuming you are on about adult size bikes. I've not tried getting a bike in mine, but it looks like it might just fit on its side (would probably struggle to get it in upright on the handlebars) making use of the side door. Might give it a try later on (weather permitting) and let you know how I get on.

Would be a great help if you get the chance to give it a go Bex, thanks. Out of interest how do you find this tent? Do you erect it single handedly? How long and easy is it to erect? Hope you don't mind me asking. thanks.
My Tornado 3 has been exceptional; easy to pitch on my own, it has survived gales and torrential rain, seems totally bombproof. If you have "quick release" front wheels on your bikes you may be able to take them off and fit the bikes in, but I doubt it.

I was just wondering whether ther was any particular reason why the lads want to keep their bikes in the tent? It might be simpler to just lock the bikes up outside an ordinary tent and then pop a lightweight cover over them. MT

Would like the bikes inside as I've read about bikes being stolen from outside tents and with nothing to lock them to (such as a car) thought inside would be a good idea. Suppose this brings me to the question of how those with bikes and nothing to lock them to keep them safe.

Slightly off topic, but I was at Winfields, Haslingden, a few weeks ago. Walking around the outdoor tent display, I came across one tent (think it was an Easycamp) that actually had a "garage" built onto the end to accomodate a motorbike.

Only pitched it once so far (second time tomorrow for Creamfields) and found it easy enough on my own, can't remember how long it took me tho. Never looked at the instructions, the poles are colour coded, but with 2 of them longer than the other one, it's hardly rocket science as to which one is for the porch bit and which two are for the dome!
I'll have a play with fitting the bike in when I get back to my parents as there's much more space than in uni accomodation, especially as I wouldn't mind getting a pic or two taken.
