Does anyone know the difference between Atlantic, Etna and other named versions of the small/2 or 3 berth frame tent.....Cabanon website & UK dealer sites seem to differ on names and sizes.

Is it something to do with pole weight or ?

Also, any opinions on this size/style of Cabanon

Many thanks

Hi kabs
The Etna was discontinued in 2006 and had a metal frame
The Atlantic is the same size as the Etna and as the lightweight Ali frame. I am not 100% sure of this but I think the Atlantic is breathable polycotton and the Etna is cotton?
Regards
Rex.

AFAIK the Etna and the Atlantic are basically the same design but the newer Atlantic has the lighterweight poles, as Rex said. For this size of tent though I wouldn't think that was a huge consideration. Given the choice I'd go for an Atlantic but if I was looking secondhand (and there won't be that many s/h Atlantics about) a keenly priced Etna could be very attractive. MT

Hi All,

We have a Cabanon Etna and the only one we've ever seen!

It's cotton walled, with a pvc roof and spring linked steel frame.

The sleeping compartment is cotton with a pvc base and hangs from the frame.

Plenty room inside for a twin and grill stove on collapsible stand.

We use a separate rectangular groundsheet in the living space.

Not a lightweight tent, but faultless in all weather.

Excellent 2/3 berth if you've the space to carry it.

Peter..

Welcome to the forum Peter

Great little tent you've got there.     You can't beat a frame tent whatever the weather - cooler during hot summers (like we used to have a few years ago  ), yet secure and comfortable in wet & windy weather too.

Thanks for the welcome Jean.

On the strength of the Etna and as we now have a smaller car and trailer, we recently bought a 4 berth Trigano frame tent via ebay for £53, it's obviously seen some action over the years.
Has a few marks and many of the springs are broken, but none of that matters really.

It's just back from a week on Anglesey with no problems at all.. a bargain!

I'll recommend a frame tent too.. if you've a way of getting it there..

Peter

Thank you for all the responses...

Yes I think that Atlantic IS polycotton with the lighter weight frame, whilst the earlier Etna was canvas with steel frame.

The Cabanon website still shows the Etna so maybe it is still made for the Continent and the Atlantic for the UK. The Atlantic shows in the Highbridge Cabanon downloadable brochure.

Both have PVC roof....does this cause any condensation problems? I wonder why they fit this...is it perhaps that there is not enough fall for the water to shed properly?

thanks again

Hi kabs.

Whilst I can only speak for the canvas Etna, I don't remember any condensation inside ever.

It certainly doesn't "rain" soon as you move in a morning like our Venture 500.

There's a fair slope to the roof and it's kept tight over the frame, so I wouldn't have thought water would pool if it were made differently.

Plus the PVC is easy to clean.

Peter...

I've put a front and side picture in my image gallery..

Peter...
